    Lost in Translation (assingment) whew:

    After seeing Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, I came to one conclusion Bill Murray acting talent’s truly undeniable. He has this amazing ability to make his intended audience feel comfortable in very uncomfortable situations. For example, the whole premise of this film would normally be seen as creepy in the actual realm of real life. However, Murray makes the audience feel empathy for his character, Bob Harris, through his ability to convey his loneliness. Therefore, the audience roots for Harris to find any type of way to cure his sense of loneliness; his sadness brings forth a feeling of compassion for the audience through Murray’s ability to convey his aimless life. Furthermore, Harris’ aimless coincides with Charlotte’s (Scarlett Johansson) effectively eradicating the audience’s normal reaction to seeing this two together as creepy. In a sense, the audiences need to see these two trapped individuals overcome their loneliness overshadows the age difference; it becomes a connection built on breaking through their respective battles with depression rather than any sense of romance. In the end, the audience feels empathy for an otherwise creepy situation through the abilities of both Murray and Johansson.
