May 11, 201635. Freestyle
Maybe a top 5 collab between Thug and RHQ. The chemistry is unreal. The latter kicks it off waxing poetic about wanting his son to go to college despite what white america might make of him. And then Thug walks in like the man of the year. It's a thing of beauty.
I want Quan medication he got pain pills
But I need to see my girl to make my pain heal
...but I ain't never been in love so I don't know how pain feel
34. Speed Racer
Here's a fun fact: this and free gucci were made in the same 1 hour session. Here's a question: HOW? I know this is probably a lot higher up for most but like I said, a lot of these tracks have the same replay value to me and it's hard to say which one I realyl like more. I'm still moving s--- around on my list as I write this lol. But anyways, Thug doesn't give a d--- if you care and neither do I TBH. I'm an astornaut, and I'm shittin' on you like I'm constipated. Don't need no problems cause I'm ballin out there.
The tracks aesthetic is incredibly serene and Thug rides the beat as smooth as butter...this is just another reason why Metro's work with Thug eclipses his work with Future.
My favorite part might be when Thug shouts out Caillou, Ryu, and then address Wayne with 1 line "They say I, you, nah n----- you, me." It's honestly brilliant.
And yo, this one time I was at a concert and my gun showed...because I was in Cali wearin' no clothes. s--- was brazy.
33. The Promise
Where Metro and Thug make euphoric anthems, London and Thug make pure soul music. The Promise is one of the best examples of Thug's writing and would be in like my top 10 of the best tracks Thug's ever made. Who woulda thought the song that starts out with "skeet skeet" would somehow end up with Thug listing the names of all 6 of his kids (in place of a traditional hook) and promising that him, or his brothers/sisters/family would always be there for them? One of my favorite moments in any Thug song:
My kids go by uh, Jacob, Kyvion, Haiti, Hayden, Amir, Maury, and...
I swear to God I ain't sorry b---- I got a maid that'll watch 'em in the dark
And I got some sisters that'll watch 'em like a guardian
Plus I got some elders that'll watch 'em like a guard
The song also contains plenty of other fantastic turns of phrase, including this other incredibly self-aware and poignant bit:
I don't trust you no worryOops I meant worthy
I know it's kinda hard to get these
Words I'm saying, I'm steady praying, amen
Please forgive me for my sins, please twin
I don't wanna be departed from you, you me and
You know I'm you
It's just so good.
32. Best Friend
What else is there to say about Thug's biggest solo hit to date? He took a meme and made it a clinic in rapping. He's the trap Michael Jackson moonwalkin, and you can't arrest him because he's just talking about his necklace...okay?
31. I Need War
Another fun fact: this was WAY higher on my list originally. Like, top 20. But rankings are dumb anyways so whatever.
This lowkey might be my favorite TI/Thug collab. From TI's spitfire verse to him adlibing for Thug, it's a great display of their natural chemistry. And Thug comes through with a whirlwind of a feature man. When Thug lets go of all structure during his verse and just emotes, it's hard not to be swept up in the climax.
If I was counting blue cheese I wouldn't like ranch anymore either.

7. Freaky
When this track first leaked, I was convinced that Kanye was going to be on it when it officially dropped. Talks of him and Thug working together were being confirmed in interviews, Kanye apparently bought Thug a pair of Yeezys off eBay or something (lol), and he had Thug play him endless amounts of unreleased music when he went to see him backstage during the Rodeo Tour. He compared Thug to Bob Marley. Constantly Hating was his favorite song. On the last verse of Freaky, Thug says "$5,000 on Yeezys, they think I ain't Jesus" -- and I blew my load. My current favorite rapper alive directly referencing my favorite rapper of all time. Over a cinematic Wondagurl beat where magical strings where sweeping on and off the canvas as Thug bellowed about everything from Erykah Badu to Everybody Hates Chris (and Crips). I thought I was in heaven. I made up fake Kanye verses using Thug's Yeezy flow ("Nori is my darling, Kim is my Barbie, ay. I bought em a Shar Pei, my clothes made by Kanye" idk leave me alone)
Fast forward to SS1 and this got an official release, still without Kanye. As the story goes, Travis Scott did the only good thing in his career by forwarding this beat/track to Kanye so he could drop a verse on it for Thug -- but Kanye never came through. Or maybe he did...and it's in their vault of 40+ tracks. Smh.
Regardless, this is one of my favorite Thug songs of all time. No matter how much I've overplayed it to date. "What is your bargain?" is a normal question in my group of friends. The ad libs are second nature (turtle you turtle).

20. Raw
L-O-V-E, lil mama say she down to ride for me...
Another track leaked shortly before SS2 dropped (along with my baby and she notice), this song quickly became one of my favorites for obvious reasons. The atypical beat mixed with soaring vocals and the blissfully poetic waxing creates a flawless record full of nothing but unfiltered love. Thugs thoughts are always raw, never tainted by self-doubt. More often than not, he's in love with the idea of love -- or lust. More often than not, he explicitly loves his friends and family more than any single significant other he's ever had. Raw combines both sentiments, following Thug as he gives his bro the address to the road to riches and serenades a stripper by dropping ten thousand ones on ones on ones. He wants each and every woman in the world to have his son, and each and every YSL associate to be swimming in riches.
And a wise man once told him nothing.
19. Flaws
Back when I was getting all these Thug leaks before the actual Thug-Gate happened, Flaws became an instant favorite of mine. Once all the tracks leaked, it was clearly top 5 out of the bunch. I haven't been listening to it much recently, but god d--- how f---ing good is this s---. With two stellar verses and a heavenly hook that plays like Gospel music to me more than anything on Chance's new tape, Flaws is probably some of Thug's best songwriting to date. There's no beating the Thugger, leashing Thugger, but he will let you eat the Thugger, please the Thugger. He accepts everyone, flaws and all, and he expects you to do the same. In a house full of grown folk, he swears he loves his girl, that she's his bread & butter. He feels free, like the motherfuckin nature baby, and he swears he'll beat trial with all his n----s. Because, after all, he is the Prince of the city. But like his daddy or the school, he just might hear you out. He's just that considerate.
18. Just Might Be
One of the first time's I was blown away by Thug's rapping and realized I had no idea what this guy could or couldn't do. One of the tracks that leaked ahead of Barter 6 (along with amazing and halftime i think, with check being the only official release?). It's a tour de force in everything that made this era of Thug so spectacular -- the technical prowess, the atmospheric rumination, the tasteful autotune. He knows how to pack as many words as Busta into a single bar, and he knows how to let that s--- breathe. He knows how to woo your girl and take care his own mom and grandma. He's rich (really rich!) but he'll still crack you over the head with a bottle. He just might be the realist lil n----- you ever did see.
Mama moved to 85 north not 85 south
17. Take Kare
Probably part of the top 3 biggest Thug tracks in my group of friends (alongside treasure and about the money) and an absolute trip to listen to. It's hard to even recall how I felt the first time I heard this cut. It was released like an entire year before it was used as the intro to SS1 and I all I remember is being in awe. Boolin at basketball games, Ray J Kim K and Lil Kim, trips to Peru, Thug sounding like prime Wayne, Wayne sounding like a Thug clone - what doesn't this song have?? Take Kare is such a drunken, woozy celebration of life. It's surreal, existing in a world where everyones got dinosaur bankrolls (woo whooooo) and can drop a $100K on the whole thing even tho the insides also cost a whole thing (so, if need help with the math, that's $200K on a ceiling-less Bentley). I only wish Wayne and Thug could've worked together in person -- Wayne's verse would've felt a lot less tacked on. But it's okay. It still works. Thug's girl will knock you out like fight night but she doesn't gangbang -- she bangs gangs. Wayne's curving his homies for his girl. I wish I could've seen Thug's reaction to Birdman showing him Wayne's added verse...like when Kendrick received that Jay Z remix to BDKMV. d---.
Don't get scared now p---- n-----.
16. Myself
Thugga. Alex. Engineer right now. My first time ever hearing about Alex Tumay haha. It's hard to describe a song like Myself. On the surface, it comes off as a introspective cut, but at its core its still as lustful as anything else Thug does. The hook, for f---s sake, has starts out by him talking about remaining true to himself, then goes on to outline a scenario where a g--- of girls want to r--- him all by himself. It also hilariously see him declaring that he did a feature (his best ever) with Dej Loaf (who's gay if you didnt know) and tried her himself...and if she ever say yes, he'll dive in himself.
He's got this tool right besides his belt, he'll flood you with jewels for the water like Phelps, and he'll give his love to you and his son named Jeff. He's got a closet so big you can go shopping in there, and he knows how to mind control that p---- (come here p---- come here).
Last but not least, he goes acapella and hilariously whispers his intentions to "baptist" the p----. Not "baptize," but "baptist." Lmao. How can you not love this man?
