I'm not being cocky though. I'm simply suggesting if people hold my writing skills in high regard they should also consider my point of view. If they want to have their own beliefs, fine. But they should be able to defend those opinions reasonably. Paul is being strident but many of those opposing him are either a. Cartoonishly racist, or b. Simple-minded. This is a complex issue so maybe those who appreciate and reflect those complexities should be given the benefit of the doubt. That's all

This podcast/interview is relevant to the debate. Wood is a former police officer out of baltimore and talks a lot about the institutionalized racism that goes on within the system.... as he was enforcing that system it makes for a very interesting listen. If you're interested in this stuff at all I would for sure advise you to watch it or get it off itunes. Haven't seen it in a while but i remember it being very enlightening for me at the time.

My favourite TV show and I'm going to second this. evryone, watch it if you haven't.

It's not a documentary by any means and I feel like someone will just go "BUT ITS NOT REAL!!!"
But the fiction becomes so realistic that during shooting of the wire Baltimore police departments actually requested they tone down their depiction of Police because it was pretty much too realistic.

There's a clear difference between considering your point of view and agreeing with it.

And I agree that it's a complex issue we're discussing, but that's precisely why I'm so frustrated with you and WPG. You guys are not approaching with with any nuance whatsoever.

The tragedy in Dallas was clearly a result of a polarized racial landscape, where one side is consistently siding with the police, and the other side is consistently siding with BLM. You and WPG are the latter, but I don't see many people here who are the former (with a few exceptions).

BLM is straight up anti-police. Just look at what happened at the Toronto Pride Parade. BLM halted the event and gave the organizers a list of demands. One of those demands was that no police should attend the event at all.

If we are going to argue that Trump's so called hateful rhetoric is responsible for certain hate crimes, then how in Gods name are we going to say that the anti-police rhetoric we hear from BLM isn't at least partly to blame here? Of course there are racist police. Of course the very role of a police officer would attract racists. And of course America is still struggling with overcoming its racist roots. But I mean, c'mon. To suggest that only one side is to blame for this tragedy, is not only victim blaming, but spits in the face of your argument that this is a complex issue.

WPG is an ideological windbag, so there's not much hope in trying to get him to consider other views, but I think you're reasonable enough to see that this shouldn't be a one-sided argument. And to argue that no one else has thought through their beliefs is more than a bit arrogant.
