Jun 16, 2015 not even freaky!?! that s--- is so good man also thoughts on thug/what project have u heard? just curious, dont remember you ever divulging too many opinions about him
Jun 16, 2015 the reason your write up exists is why i didnt feel like writing about this song like the other ones so far: for those havent read it: http://www.passionweiss.com/2015/05...-thug-and-jamie-xx-concoct-the-perfect-party/ (sidenote: why arent you on the staff page of pow? always wondered this)
Jun 16, 2015 I really like Barter 6, and I enjoy his contributions to the Rich g--- releases. I don't listen to him every day or anything, but that's just a matter of musical preference. He's clearly a gifted rapper, with an ability to find pocket flows and melodies that I don't think anyone else could find. His persona/writing is pretty great as well (he reminds me a lot of someone like Ghostface with his ridiculous descriptors) and idk, his eccentricities err on the side of endearing rather than awkwardness. He's not one of my favorite rappers or anything, but I like what he does. I'd actually say Barter 6 is one of the best hip hop releases I've heard this year (most all of the albums I've listened to have been underwhelming, lots of great individual songs out there but I haven't heard a truly great album yet).
Jun 16, 2015 d--- the first reasonable assessment of thug ive read, ever i knew there was a reason i was asking you
Jun 16, 2015 Best song on In Colour and a very pleasant surprise when it dropped, you don't see crossovers like this very often I had high expectations for this but I found it very underwhelming I liked the songs with the other xx members and this one, but in general it was a letdown for me. Could you post a couple of your favourites other than this and Stevens' album?
Jun 16, 2015 To each his own, I know it's different from a lot of his work with The xx, but the album really managed to get under my skin. It'd be my favorite if Sufjan hadn't released his best work. Besides In Colour and Carrie & Lowell there's a few albums I've loved: Blur - The Magic Whip Panda Bear - Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybear Vulnicura by Bjork is pretty great too, so is Barter 6, after that it's just a lot of good/decent records; IYRTITL, Simple Songs, Universal Themes, Mr. Wonderful, Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance. etc. Dark Sky Paradise is probably my biggest guilty pleasure from this year. lol
Jun 16, 2015 Nice man, I liked all of them except from Blur's (haven't listened to it yet). You might like Viet Cong, Ibeyi, Escape From h---, the new godspeed, the new Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Courtney Barnete's etc
Jun 17, 2015 8. Mama I'm Sorry In some sense continuing the "good times" from yesterday, "Mama I'm Sorry" is a celebration of Thug's current status in the scene masked as a not too genuine apology Thugger to his mom (for smoking weed from Orange Beach, amongst other extracurricular activities). The verses waver from his hoe of the day (probably someone else's wifey that he claims is now "suckin' my blood like a tick") to emphatic rebukes to his mom's claim that he's "out of control." "Everything I say I do it," he claims, "runnin my money up for all of my cousins and my n----s or else." People "bitching that I'm trappin, even though I make it rain," he states, and wonders why for an entire verse (in between "smokin on marley" and "eatin' that jello like pudding"). "I'll go to jail, I don't care, they know there's no stoppin me," he boldly exclaims, and probably just wishes his mom would get off his back for minute -- since she knows he's going to "bring that sauce just like chipotle" (ps: dont use rap genius for the lyrics to this song, lol).
