12. Get That Money



A fantastic example of how just the different inflections Thug places on a line can elevate it above par..run it up run it up..get money money

Even though its s bit low-key throughout, from that first random instance of harmonizing a few seconds into the track, all the way to its somber end, I'm hooked to Thug's drawl, shift in pitches, and various (surprisingly clever) references. And without any lyrics to reference, and not actually having an encyclopedic knowledge of his life as most assume, it makes piecing the puzzle together even more entertaining.

"I dedicate this one to Franklin...MJ....I dedicate this one to blanket (Bankhead?)"

I don't understand how someone can listen to this guy switch up the pace, flip the script, and alter the tempo at the drop of a hat, and not be in awe at some point.

8. Mama I'm Sorry



In some sense continuing the "good times" from yesterday, "Mama I'm Sorry" is a celebration of Thug's current status in the scene masked as a not too genuine apology Thugger to his mom (for smoking weed from Orange Beach, amongst other extracurricular activities). The verses waver from his hoe of the day (probably someone else's wifey that he claims is now "suckin' my blood like a tick") to emphatic rebukes to his mom's claim that he's "out of control."

"Everything I say I do it," he claims, "runnin my money up for all of my cousins and my n----s or else." People "bitching that I'm trappin, even though I make it rain," he states, and wonders why for an entire verse (in between "smokin on marley" and "eatin' that jello like pudding"). "I'll go to jail, I don't care, they know there's no stoppin me," he boldly exclaims, and probably just wishes his mom would get off his back for minute -- since she knows he's going to "bring that sauce just like chipotle"

(ps: dont use rap genius for the lyrics to this song, lol).

1. Givenchy



I didn't know if this list should have some sort of narrative, or if I should start with the first thug song I ever got into, or my favorite, etc. But in the end I decided we'll get to all of them at some point so might as well keep it random and not second guess myself.

And why start out with not only one of my favorite solo thug tracks, but one of my favorite album/mixtape intros to date. Birdman's only contribution to this song (aside from presumably dictating where to place the "Rich g---" DJ tags like some sort of profound maestro) is the GOAT intro. Boolin at the bando wit a few b------s...we neva hung over!

Thug, as he's done numerous times in his career, comes out of the gate swinging and doesn't let up for an entire 5 minutes. Sure there's a hook or refrain but it all just seems like one, elongated, stream of consciousness.

The verse goes from being a radio friendly, pop, ballad to his "twin," to something way more defiant, and aggressive.

Yeah, I'm the president baby blacker than Barack!!

Holy s--- Old English>>>>>>

One of the best songs from last year without a doubt. You can feel the competitive nature on each verse, Thug was the perfect start to this song and Gibbs & Ferg continue that energy. Not to mention we got quotables raining like confetti throughout the song.

i need some1 to explain to how this is possible. i know its partly cuz i could be overrating a few...but even the most respected critic would probably find 50 different thug songs from this year to nominate for song of the year...

I just finished browsing the whole thread and I am amazed by an amount of great songs(and guest verses) thugger has under his belt. I always liked him but mainly because of the songs off the rich g--- tape and barter 6. I downloaded these 100+ leaked songs a while ago but only checked a few. There were also magnificent, but I didn't have time to look at them a little bit closer and actually feel the vibe of them. It was just a quick research to see if they are legitimate songs or just scrapped, unfinished throwaways.

Thank you @Narsh for doing a journalistic job and selecting all these gems from thugger's catalogue. You whetted my appetite and now I want more songs.

15. If You Didn't (ft. T.I. & Chanel West Coast)



In my opinion, this (and another TI & Thug collab in the leaks) have the best TI verses in recent memory -- not the preexisting official collabs like About the Money or I Need War.

TI proves to be nimble, even though essentially being an ol man next to Thug, and switches up his flow seamlessl. He sets the tone and forces thug to come in after the hook as creatively as possible (before also changing up the pace like Tip did).

And boy does he deliver. L-O-V-E, he spells out over Chanel's understated hook (as TI harmonizes about not giving a f--- about dem b------s), before diving into my favorite 10 seconds of the song:

n-----...niggaaaaa
My dawgs'll come n smoke em like a ciggggaaaa

It's ***flawless.

The track is unfinished, and cuts off abruptly after Thug's verse, but it's great while it lasts.

We ain't payin no attention to the n----- they scuured (no concern! no concern!)

No No No was one of my favorites from the leaks, knocked off is perfection, Stunna is in the running for song of the month for me, I played the Quarterback snippet on thug's instagram too many times to count (that man has a good arm!), Best Friend is probably song of the year so far, loved the video and this song is sooo catchy. thugger goat.
