May 12, 2020IMO, Doctor’s Advocate is far superior to The Documentary for this very reason.
Game felt like a cardboard-cutout of a west coast rapper on The Documentary, whereas on the Doctor’s Advocate, he had both improved as a rapper and — more importantly — had a story of his own to tell.

Not necessarily saying this is a better period, really I just agree with @Koolo and others that have mentioned the cherry picking thing. I think depending on what was going on in your life at a certain point you'll always end up romanticizing a certain period for music (like for me it's probably 2009-2015 cuz I was in college/early 20s).Fire Squad, Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan and 1 other person like this. -

Be careful @Mikey if u say most of the popular rappers right now are without charisma and seem to have zero interest in hiphop, and popular producers are mostly boring assholes repeating the same s-----y trapbeat over and over ur an old man without taste !
Oh and ftr thug and future were goats, and yg is great just like more of them. W popular ones I mostly mean losers like the amigos, lil baby, gunna etcasvdawg, Ordinary Joel, lil uzi vert stan and 1 other person like this. -

The beat selection, in particular, is absolutely incredible; Doctor’s Advocate inarguably holds its own in this regard, even when compared to The Documentary. To this day, I’m impressed that Game somehow managed to use a cast of producers (yes, many were in-house Aftermath producers) to perfectly capture Dr. Dre’s sound despite his lack of involvement.
P.S. — Whatever happened to Game’s great ear for picking beats?asvdawg, Ordinary Joel and M Solo like this. -
