Correct 2-4, there are now 2. How is it any different? read my last sentence.

The gap has never been this significant and its the reason these playoffs have STUNK. Anyone that doesn't have some type of agenda acknowledges this.

That's not true though. You just want the illusion of competition. The reality is that's it's always been like this. Since the 80s there's always been 2-4 teams that can win a title with every other team being FAR behind them. This year it's 2 (3 if the spurs were healthy). But that's no different than when the lakers won in the early 00s or the Cs in the 80s.

The problem with the NBA playoffs is 8 teams from each conference make the playoffs and the series are too long. Lebron may lose 1 game to a team like the pacers but he'll never lose 4 so idk why they allow them in the playoffs. It should just be the top 8 teams regardless of conference.

The two teams in the finals have gone a combined 24-1 in the playoffs so far...

Its rarely been this significant, this is why everyone was bs when KD went to Golden State. Lakers in 00-01 and 85-86 Celtics sure, but I can't remember when the playoffs as a whole has been this bad. There hasn't been one good series.

Doesn't mean the Finals aren't maybe the most anticipated of all time, but the rest of the playoffs? trash. The Spurs were never a threat, Warriors were -1600 going into that series. Don't care about Game 1 w/ Kawhi, Spurs had no shot. Vegas gave the Celtics the far better shot lol.

I knew that was coming. We as fans often get caught up in novelty stats.Whats really the difference between 24-1 and 24-5?

KD going to the warriors knocked out one contender so we have 3 instead of 4. That's still ~ 75% of teams that won't compete for a title. Which is what it's always been.

The illusion of competition is what a lot of ppl are falling victim to. "It's never been this large of a difference between the contenders and the field" is false. The difference between the Cavs and the Celtics is larger than the difference between the Celtics and Sixers but that always been true. Look at the Rockets. They went from a fringe playoff team to a fringe contender in 1 off season. It's easy to go from bad to good. It's almost impossible to go from good to contender. And if you are a true contender you will dominate the field for a vast majority of a decade. So the Cavs and Warriors are just a continuation of what the NBA has always been.

I wonder if people who put Bill Russell in their top 5 are serious or feel pressured to do so

Every player the Cs are targeting are going to be available via FA in either this or next year. There' no way they should trade this years #1 pick unless the can get an actual superstar.

The Spurs were a legit threat to Golden State before Kawhi Leonard went down. I still believe that.

Either way, I can't complain about having 3 of the potentially greatest strings of finals matchups in a row even if the playoffs leading up to it were garbage. This is the most star studded finals of my lifetime, and many others'.
And yeah they should definitely hold onto their picks because like redsoxxx has said, they're not gonna be able to beat the Cavs or Warriors in the next couple of years if they trade the picks for a star. They should be building for 4-5 years down the line instead of being in win now mode.
Lol I know Bill Simmons has him ranked as #2 all time (maybe #3 nowadays cuz LeBron) but he actually backs it up with great points. If you ever get a chance to read his book on basketball, he breaks it down nicely on why he'd pick Russell over Wilt and Kareem. It makes it hard to lean towards the other 2 honestly.

I don't wanna like this post, you're f---ing right about the best team part. But maybe LeBron and Kyrie got a few miracles in them again. & IMO the Warriors are weak mentally. Especially Curry and KD

Does whoever wins this series get called a dynasty? It'll be their 2nd in 3 years with 3 straight finals appearances, both teams probably aren't going away anytime soon either.

The Thunder are 33-9 in games where Westbrook gets a trip double.

    Worst stat of the season.

I think you have to at least win a back to back championship to be considered a dynasty.

3 in 5 years is what I normally consider a dynasty, maybe 3 in 6.

Dynasties since the turn of the century

    Yankees 96-2000- 4 in 5 years
    Lakers 2000-02'- 3 peat
    Patriots 2001-04'- 3 in 4 years
SF Giants 2010-14'-3 in 5 years
    Blackhawks 2010-15'-3 in 6 years

    current potential dynasties

    Pats-2 of the last 3
Cavs or Warriors-one of them will be 2 of last 3
    Penguins-could be back to back
