At the end of the day, it seems like this election just turned out to be a backlash against the current administration over inflation & immigration.

Trump did better than 2020 basically across the board. He did this with minimal ground game & Harris out spending him. Retrospective voting is a powerful thing.

If Biden was in that field and some how had as incompetent security detail as Trump, (don't see how).... he would have shot at Biden.

If he had a shot at Taylor Swift he would have took it.

I don't think the people asking for Biden to be replaced understand how politics works at a deeper level.

All the alternatives (Harris, Newsom, Whitmer) have either low approval rating or low recognition. With only a few months left, that's not enough time for them to organize a full campaign. If this discussion were a year ago, yeah, but 3 months before the election. There's also other questions like what if some states don't allow the new candidate on the ballot; or what if the new candidate doesn't have access to the money that was raised for the Biden-Harris ticket?

And in general, whether people like to admit it or not, the public sees swapping out an incumbent as a sign of weakness and instability. There's never been a case where an incumbent drops out and their party's new candidate wins, and when it was tried, the incumbent party lost by a landslide.

Democrats aren't favored to win the presidency regardless of whether they keep Biden, but with Biden polling only 2% behind in swing states, it's probably better for Democrats to hope for a sample error (or an October surprise), rather than run a new candidate that could end up being 10% behind instead of 2%.

Anybody with half a brain over the last year and a half could see Biden can't be Trump.

I think before yesterday had they swapped him out for somebody else there was a real opportunity to win but now that's out the window, too.
