Not really. Since this is coming so quickly after the $600 check, most will see the $1400 as an extension of that lol. Biden never promised $2000 on top of the 600 and the number 1400 has been floating around since the last checks passed. This is also one of at least three stimulus packages Biden is working with D leadership on so 2000 in the future isn't ruled out.
I also have a hard time seeing Manchin or any republican in senate voting yes on anything higher than 1400 this time around

I mean saying $2000 until last night when they changed the wording and started saying $2000 "total" and putting out ads with checks with $2000 on them is misleading and there's a 0% chance they didn't know that. Yeah, it's not the be-all end-all, but it's very valid to vent frustration about it lol

yeah, you guys are arguing that people who read politico could see between the lines, which, sure. but to pretend that it wasn’t duplicitous to not clarify the messaging immediately after the $600 went out... come on.

"LMMMAAAOOOOO" pls, no crutches. and im not 'frothing at the mouth' -- thats you. as always, reflexive logic.

loser mentality from loser progressives who - again - dont know how this stuff works, and constantly make perfection the enemy of progress. $1.9 trillion, still furious. its pathetic tbh which is fine except it undercuts momentum and threatens Actually helping people for once. note, dear reader, he cant respond to me bringing up manchin/murkowski etc.... bc he cant!!!

My question here is why aren't you celebrating a $15/hr minimum wage but are up in arms about an extra $600 (that was sent out two weeks ago). Like, that is a major win for progressives considering the moderates in the party preferred $12/hr

@Swizz and @Captain Awesome AKA Papa are right here. whining over the $600 and glossing over this great stimulus package thats a major win is loser rhetoric.

I think like most of us here have the same goals but the more pragmatic progressives on here (myself and @Enigma ) realize that for a progressive agenda you have to operate in the framework of political reality. Not everything is like $2000 or bust. Most Americans will understand that since this is being passed so quickly after the last package it is meant to be an extension of the $600 check.

I think his point is that the progressive wing of the party would prefer gridlock in the name of unattainable goals over meaningful progress.

$15 minimum wage is great! I was simply venting frustration about something I found to be lame/unscrupulous.

im telling u from anecdotes here in dc, bernie isnt a team player.... both in terms of his lofty progressive idelogy (sure) but also hes just kind of a cranky d-ck. and yeah, you dont know what youre talking about lol, separate point.

like other ppl - brown, wyden, warren - are better liked, more operational .... that said even HE knows this is a good deal. $15/min wage is a huge huge win. lets hope we get there and joe rogan-style progressives, a la Mr. Thompson, dont sink it. huge tragedy if so.

“i know you are but what am i” is not the rhetorical cudgel you think it is

why will you not address the fact that i am not and never have been talking about the merits of $1,400 vs. $2,000 in direct payments and am still talking about the fundamentally slipperiness with which it was sold?

its 100% true cmon. progressives arent in charge ~~~~~~~~anywhere and have the reputation for being rhetorical/ineffectual perfectionists for a reason like, wat. what reality are we talking about?

not really, check AOCs social media replies after she joins any meaningful piece of legislation. Like, she gets crucified for working with moderates any time she does lol. There's a large portion of the progressive movement who thinks that moderate Democrats are the enemy as much or moreso than Republicans. The all or nothing bunch.
