I think as w many topics, addressing the systemic issues behind gun violence will be more beneficial than reactive measures. I get that a lot of ppl on the left haven’t been introduced to that particular line of thinking tho, as always I’m half just being combative to take the piss

And those are generally good prereqs for gun ownership? We can amend those requirement further moving forward to make it more equitable but the answer isn’t to abolish them?

Violent crime in low income areas obviously isn’t going to disappear with gun control regulations but making guns less accessible in those communities would undoubtedly save a significant amount of lives.

completely valid and fair to see it as that black and white but I’d argue that just like w the outdated fbi crime statistics racists like to pull, the context behind the numbers matters just as much

lots of factors, but still understandable to see it that way, I won’t be obtuse. Js especially today it’s so easy to makeshift weapons or attachments. Almost any regulated weapon would be able to be modified to be illegal

Bro it’s already illegal to s---t guns do u rly think the ppl who are in that world are going to stop when the buying part becomes illegal? Most of them are already bought illegally and I know there’s stuff to do with how a no gun state can’t rly exist perfectly cuz gun legal states are a few hours away but even if we outlawed it at the fed level there’s still Mexico man. That s----s easy to acquire.

and also no, hot take but I don’t think barring anyone who’s ever told their doctor they felt depressed or anxious from being able to protect themselves is a good idea

overall the whole concept seems flawed and idealistic, only working in areas where that s--- is irrelevant anyways

You think it would be easy for guns to be trafficked from Mexico to states all over the U.S.? Guns aren’t drugs. You can’t just hide an AK-47 in some fruit & sneak it across the border. This would be increasingly difficult & supply would be far lower if the federal government clamped down on firearms manufactured in the U.S. 90%+ of firearms used in crimes in the U.S. originate from the U.S. Guns on black market originate from somewhere in the country. That’s why a registry would be so helpful.

I don’t think it’s easy but it’s a lot more common than you seem to think. I have friends who’ve been to prison 3 separate times for it (illegally immigrated so each time, to save rooms, they just deport him. then he reups and revisits), friends who were lightly involved in illegal gun resale and maybe it’s just cuz I’m slightly south of Houston but a lot of the connects were from Mexico. Smuggling doesn’t happen like u see in the movies

generally speaking if ur big time u have the $ to just bribe some border cop getting s--- pay to just look the other way. Border patrols focuses on hotspots and always, always has blindspots that are being communicated on
