this goes beyond being anecdotal, by the very nature of things if the feds truly knew where the guns were coming from there wouldn’t be any. Idk how much mileage u can get out of whatever data is leading u to that conclusion @Enigma

by registration? not really. the approach that would end up affecting people unequally—breaking along the lines of other existing inequalities—is increased criminalization of guns without any moves toward universal registration and/or buybacks. those are expensive and politically unpopular, but they would be more effective at curbing gun violence, and would be less easily perverted by police and the courts.

yeah but the registration wouldn’t be happening in a vacuum, and decriminalization doesn’t seem to be his M.O. from what I’ve seen, but maybe I just haven’t read the proper stuff

Ultimately the question is: do you think the supply of firearms from across the border would be able to replace the supply produced domestically in the U.S. That answer is undoubtedly no. You are aware that like #1 supplier of guns to cartels & other organized crime in Mexico is the U.S., right? A large percentage of their firearms come from the U.S. So to assume they would be able to supply us if our supply of firearms started to dwindle doesn’t really make sense...

I don’t see biden getting enough support to raise taxes to fund buybacks so I don’t rly think these guns would be leaving circulation. It would be a very slow process of attrition. I don’t have the data but how many guns get confiscated yearly? Brb googling

oh it would undoubtedly be a slow process but you have to start somewhere. Gun control restrictions aren’t meant to stop gun violence from happening tomorrow, next month or next year but rather reduce the rate of gun violence in 10, 20, 30 years. So the next generation can live in a safer environment.

yeah but that’s like 30 straight years of no legal self defense, living in gun heavy crime heavy areas worrying about choosing between getting mugged or arrested, no knock raids, and overall negatively impacting the most at risk communities

I have family still suffering legal repercussions for firing a gun— in the air— in the middle of being jumped and robbed and, without that gun, possibly killed. I mean this as non disrespectfully as possible you’re too sheltered to discuss this bro

Trump will win with more electoral votes than he had in 2016.

I have studied all the polls, comparing them to where they were last time and I don’t see any way Trump loses, especially with the recent surge in key states. 538 giving Trump a 10% chance is laughable.

Save this post and check back Wednesday morning.

I don’t think providing more guns to people makes anyone safer. If that were the case, the U.S. wouldn’t have as much gun violence as it does now. I also don’t think having a firearm registry prevents any responsible person from being able to purchase a firearm.

Again though, these things ought to be amended as we move along. This is largely a criminal justice issue. I’m all for reforming this. I believe non-violent felons ought to be given their 2A right back if they manage to stay out of legal trouble for X amount of years. Laws & policies can change.

    ...

what about any of your life experiences makes you feel qualified to make this statement

Cuz u are beyond incorrect and that’s my whole point is how flawed current/proposed registry would be in their criteria

let me say this, I do agree that at some point we could have some form of gun registration that does have some sort of valid criteria for limiting purchases; but as it stands that is not the case and I rly don’t get the gusto with which I disagree

In 2017 I was diagnosed with the least severe form of depression, in many states other than my own I wouldn’t be allowed to own a gun literally just for telling a dr I have get suicidal at least one point in my life

think of how many unjust or unethical incarcerations happen, and think of all those ppl would be coming out of prison back to high risk areas now barred from ever being able to legally defend themselves
