I disagree about it being worse than DJ Mustard's repetitiveness. I swear he doesn't even change the tempo at allMSweeeets, Ordinary Joel, Jay Zeus and 5 others like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I swear to god he uses the same ambient synth and chipmunk vocal sample in every song. I don't know how I didn't notice for this long. It's worse than DJ mustard's "HEY"s and claps.

Don't get me wrong he's made some great stuff like Actin Crazy, Jungle, Over My Dead Body, etc...but every time I hear a bad drake beat I look up who produced it and 40 is at least coproducer. 40's lazy beats are j cole-tier in terms of boringness. At least DJ Mustard's lazy beats are still bangers.Ordinary Joel, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, Groovy Tony and 4 others like this. -

He's not super out of the box with what he does, but he has a lane and executes it perfectly for Drake. Some of the s--- definitely sounds similar but his singles chart is filled with a bunch of different types of beats.

Let's be real, 40 wouldn't dispute he is not the most innovative producer either. He has always said simplicity is key and Drake needed space production wise, which works for both

Also Metro a GOAT, most of the bad/formulaic trap beats you hear are from 808 mafia. The s--- he did on HNDRXX and Savage Mode shows his versitility, though I'm not saying he doesn't have a handful of meh beats in his catalogue.Jehovah, Ordinary Joel, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and 1 other person like this. -

I mean, Boi-1da is the dude I wish Drake would just let actually predominantly produce a project for him. And just let 40 co-produce some of that s---. That dude has some amazing production. "Seduction" marks one of the few moments in his career, Post-Encore, where Em actually spits that fi-yi and doesn't sound corny as f---. 90% of that is attributed to Boi-1da being behind the boards on that one.Ordinary Joel, DKC, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl and 1 other person like this. -

On Working Exclusively with Drake:
"That's my own personal prerogative. The Jamie Foxx record ["Fall For Your Type"] or Alicia Keys record ["Un-thinkable (I'm Ready) (Remix)"] I did, Drake wrote. The record I did for Trey Songz was a Drake song. The record I did for Wayne was for Drake at first but Wayne hijacked it. They're all related to Drake. I've never, thus far, gone outside of working with him. I'm a pretty loyal person and I feel like we have a lot of work to do and when we get an opportunity to rest and when I can go other places, I will, but thus far, I've focused on Drake and we just haven't stopped working, to be honest. When it comes to this project, one ended and the other started. So if Jay-Z or Alicia Keys is knocking on the door, I would work with anyone who wants to work with me and humbled by the opportunities I've received, but I've been stubborn to finish Drake's new album first. This is my responsibility and I take a lot of pride in that."Ordinary Joel, Jordan, Mike Tyson and 1 other person like this. -

This 40 slander is ridiculous.
Especially to go as far as to call him a hack in the thread title, but localize your gripes only with his ability as a producer (when he's so much more, a curator, a director, and exec-producer).
He also has a catalogue of incredible beats.
Repetitive sounds and stagnation do not warrant being called out as a hack.Ordinary Joel, Deadpool, Poohdini and 1 other person like this. -
