"Dealing w dangerous criminals" is kind of a pre requisite of "protect others from dangerous criminals". I'm sure they don't exclude it on the brochures when you sign up. I'm not saying cops gladly run into the line of fire, I'm saying that they made a choice to enter a profession in which death and injury are legitimate possibilities. The victims of bad cops (which I'm not saying they all are--or even a lot of them are) don't get to make that decision.

Well that depends on the crime. I don't think having a broken tail light, for instance, should be punishable by death. But like I don't consider cop killers who get killed/beaten to be victims of police brutality because they choose to be brutal first.

Oh definitely, agree. I mean that if you choose to, like rob a store, you know you take a risk. You can be arrested and in the worst case, shot -not saying they deserve death but it is a risk you take-. A broken tail light etc is not criminal behaviour of course lol

I don't think it's fair to associate the dangerous situations and risks the good cops are in, versus the victims of bad cops. Every decision has a reason, whether it be good or bad. 99.9% of the time we don't know what truly led those victims, suspects, good cops, bad cops, etc. to be in the predicament they were in BEFORE it started to be reported or plastered in the media.

Police killings are at the lowest rate since WW2 and it's not even close; in some years of Obama's presidency the gross number has been at its lowest as well. I dunno what Blair's talking about.

For sure. Even though any death is unfortunate, sometimes it can't be helped. But there's way way way too many cases where the cops had the means to handle a situation professionally and needlessly escalated the situation.

Anyway, these murders were horrific and inexcusable, just like the murders in Dallas.

For the record, all the statistics I saw seemed to make a distinction between felonious and gun related deaths for some reason so I included examples of both.

Yeah @blair I get that you disagree with lots of the ideological underpinnings but you're simply, unambiguously wrong when it comes to relative police safety.

A suggestion: Stop trying to make jokes in the immediate wake of deaths.
