I like Mac; he was capable and Anderson was very good. I don't listen to Lupe Fiasco because I value my time and sanity.

Kinda ironic Lupe ran into such trouble with a label, which ruined his career, and then with his first single off the label he releases some sell out crap.

100 percent. Lyor was passing out fliers at the "protests!" It was engineered so he could have it both ways: finally hit the crossover so he could recoup off the first two records while maintaining his ~credibility. Look at the songs from Lasers that Lupe has stood by and said were his idea. Nothing adds up.

(For the record, he is not alone in this. I know for absolute fact that a few recent artist-label "beefs" have been coordinated promo pushes.)

It's just strange that he's still so vocal when it comes to his disdain for labels after Lasers. Even on songs off of
T&Y he's basically talking s--- about major labels

lol, that's embarrassing. Even funnier that even in his attempt to crossover the two songs that would have been his to biggest hits (Nothin On You & Airplanes) got taken away and blew up with another artist.

I know, but I wouldn't say the Lupe/Lasers situation is a super common thing or a "staple", right?

I don't think it was 100% fake controversy, just because of his comments regarding The Show Goes On and the track with John Legend. I've never listened to Lasers all the way though (couldn't do it) but TSGO isn't a bad song by any stretch, and he trashed it in a 2011 article lmao

There's some truth and reality to that situation

My personal distaste for Lupe aside, my best estimate--based on things I know first-hand--is that it was a marketing ploy that spun out of control.

1017 Thug is a grower for sure. I think it might be that it sounds more raw or unpolished but I love it to death. Definitely took a few spins to click though. Personal favorites off there are Nigeria, Murda, 2 Cups Stuffed, Shooting Star, Condo Music, and Trigger Finger.
