MBDTF is one of the greatest pieces of art in the past 16 years. It is the best as far as the artistry goes.

With that being said, 808s & Heartbreak means so much more to me and affects me emotionally far more than MBDTF. I also probably enjoy Yeezus more than MBDTF because it's so sharp and concise. MBDTF is grandiose and extravagant, but definitely takes far more investment than Yeezus does.

Overall though, I have to pick MBDTF.:kanye3:

    808s > Yeezus > everything else

808s easily the most revolutionizing hip hop album of all time

you can barely find a new album thats not influenced by it in some aspect

this is probably the most shallow description of 808s i've ever seen

above anything else it's pop art, or meta pop if you will. when kanye says "I'm Andy Warhol", he's sort of right in the way that he picked the modernist art movement and created a soundtrack for it. (But he never created the movement himself.)

it sort of bursts the illusion between the artist and the listener, and the auto tune enunciates how hard it is for kanye to reach out the way he wants to. The fame and power that is put next to godhood comes with severe emotional drawbacks, and the he can't make use of the positives like he wants to. His listeners misunderstand him and his message, shown in practice with pinnochio story. All the "heartbreak" is just icing on the cake, which also helps the exaggerrated pop art direction that almost sounds like a parody at times.

This, above the 808 drums, the autotune and every other musical aspect is what the album really left as its legacy. Monster, TPAB, and any other introspective postfame album owe it all to 808s.

I love 808s but I think Jakey's description is likely closer to the real meaning behind it

the real meaning? what are you talking about

if 808s was just this emo heartbreak album with weird synths then wtf is Amazing, whats Pinocchio Story? Even the track Welcome to Heartbreak is more about his trials with fame than about actual "heartbreak"
