    Bottom line, I think we would agree that, like Outkast, the whole point of UGK is the interplay between the two. Great rap duos > great rappers in lots of ways

    It's probably because his "personal" music has no shred of authenticity left in it, it's pop music. There's no cuts as deep as Look What You've Done, or any music about anything outside of a fleeting relationship.

    Maybe that's why it's not connecting with some people.

    Mate, imagine you create a song about all your exploits/trails and tribualtions in street life commiting illegal g---/drug activity. Now this song you created gets submitted to a police department due to an ongoing "investigation" the police get the song, play it and say "wtf is this guy saying!?" even though he just openly admitted to committing crimes.

    Would you say said person is a lyrical genius? Because I would.

    See, I completely get why "One Dance" is a hit, and "One Dance" should be a hit. But I feel like Drake, as a vocalist and as a writer (asterisk or not), detracts from the song.

    That was a great era for Eminem! The EP through the first album is his peak, to me.

    @Mike Tyson it's hard to convey tone on a message board, so I'll preface this by saying that I'm not trying to be a d-ck, I'm just being honest: I don't get how you listen to this guy without rolling your eyes. Constantly--I'm talking multiple times every verse--I want to turn him off. Sometimes it's clunkers of punchlines, more often it's just the sheer try-hardness of it all. I'm sure you hate some guys I love, so no disrespect, but I am genuinely at a loss for how this guy is our biggest rap star.

    d--- was just about to make the point that they were both very different rappers and great in their own way, but the fact that their styles meshed so well together on a song was what made ugk legendary

    @Fire Squad totally agree with you about the "it's like he's reading off a piece of paper" thing. I'm still not 100% sure why I don't like the album but for me.... I listen to drake cause his music sounds good and makes for easy listening. If the writing is particularly good it's a bonus. So when I find the production and his delivery uninspired... there's kinda no reason to keep listening. Was going crazy in the album thread when everyone was saying they loved it. Dunno where all this disappointment came from.

    Glad I didn't follow any of the album roll-out or anything
