    "Ima ride in that p---- like a stroller" "p---- n----- I'll go to prison and f--- your father" Thugger uses awkward quotables all the time just where drakes are corny thugs are sus. I get the significance and how they're provocative but at the end of the day Thug and Drake are both accountable for that tendency and when it pertains to thugger yall stan it and when it pertains to Drake yall hate it, and instead of providing an intelligent response yall laugh.

    Anyone who listens to music knows that everything depends on context. Kanye can get away with a lot of goofy s--- when he's doing his aw-shucks thing on soul samples; it gets harder to sell something like the bleached a------ line on Pablo, because it's trying to be an artful song and it just doesn't click. If you go back and listen to those great Eminem radio freestyles, a lot of the punchlines don't look good on paper, but he was so fluid and so fun that it didn't matter. By contrast, at this point in his career, he's straining so hard to force every line that it reads differently, and far worse.

    I don't remember that... could have been me tho. If it was me, I guess it wasn't solid enough to justify it in my eyes since I don't remember lol. Really don't see how it's possible without sounding biased. whatever tho I'm just bored and tryna open up some kind of discussion.

    "I'ma ride in that p---- like a stroller" is a FANTASTIC line. "Chaining Tatum" isn't. So setting aside the (intelligent response) post I made above this one, the writing is just not comparable in any way. You're reaching, this isn't a real argument.

    That was a great era for Eminem! The EP through the first album is his peak, to me.

    @Mike Tyson it's hard to convey tone on a message board, so I'll preface this by saying that I'm not trying to be a d-ck, I'm just being honest: I don't get how you listen to this guy without rolling your eyes. Constantly--I'm talking multiple times every verse--I want to turn him off. Sometimes it's clunkers of punchlines, more often it's just the sheer try-hardness of it all. I'm sure you hate some guys I love, so no disrespect, but I am genuinely at a loss for how this guy is our biggest rap star.

    Dude, you might have to let this go and take the L here. What I said has nothing to do with Drake's line being a pun or "other forms of wordplay" (what are you even talking about????). Drake's line is cheesy, unfunny, oversold. Thug's is an image that I--and I don't think anyone else--has ever heard or thought of before, and he delivers it in such an unhinged, absurd way. You're acting like I'm splitting hairs here, but in reality they're worlds apart, and even people who like Drake's line more should be able to see that. They're totally dissimilar.

    Sorry, is that too jazz history for you?

    I don't really have an issue w it I think it's funny.

    But it's in an album full of bad punchlines by a rapper who tries to be a punchline rapper when he's not doing the possessive ex boyfriend shtick so it's hard not to keep a tally

    Drake watches say too much battle for s--- like toying with it like a happy meal lol. Actually, that's probably where he got it from

    For the record, I think there's a big difference between songwriting (don't know if I should call it like that since thug technically doesn't write lol) and actual lyrical content

    The character argument is good (I'm a Bino fan so I should know better) but I don't think thug steps beyond that character as often as most people claim

    I'mma let you guys fight tho :popcorn:
