Why hasn't this turned into a Beenie Man appreciation thread?

I stopped playing Views altogether, it's just drags on way too long. Drake had a persona that made TC & NWTS into what they are, I'm trying to figure out what exactly he was doing on here. I'm keeping a few songs but it just wasnt for me.

I kind of respect Drake making such long albums, at least in theory, if he's telling the truth about it being a homage to the golden age of Cash Money. But he's just not equipped to do it as he wants to.

Yes absolutely. IYRT was a one tone collection of hits and misses, with less than a handful of compelling material.

But given it was a tape, I'm not any more mad at the joint that I am at Future's EVOL. Views is just definitely better.

I think Views is a strong album, that does, admittedly, drag. I think taking some great features off shows Drake's arrogance.

I'd say the balance between rapping and singing was better in those records, and the highlights more iconic

But really what made TC era so special imo was Drake's emotional state at the time and how he had to prove everybody wrong after the relative critical flop that it ended up being TML

Well I think you're hitting on something very true here: Drake benefitted from the expectations he drastically lowered with Thank Me Later.

or a third option: hasman posts where he's scrambling to paint Views as better than the bloated pandering drivel that it is

See I would rather listen to the mixtape, just because nothing here grabs me like the first half of "Legend" or the beat on "Energy" or "10 Bands," you know? But I can see someone who has a higher tolerance for this guy being more willing to spend a lot of time with Views.

What I liked about TC was he was literally a sulking loser but it just managed to strike a chord with a huge audience. It was great ambient music and to me it's held up very well. Here it felt he was reading and rapping it off a piece of paper.
