you keep imagining that i’m the one approaching this as if it’s theoretical when that’s exactly what you’re doing.

is killing someone wrong, in absolute terms? sure, of course. but the cops just keep doing it, with virtually no oversight and rarely any consequences. camping on their front lawn doesn’t work to change it; neither does holding hands and singing, or voting, or writing op-eds, or anything else that has been going on for decades.

you keep retreating to this mealy-mouthed ideological center that, again, does not exist in the sense that it can never be realized in these situations. cops gas and beat “peaceful” protesters; they do worse to “violent” ones. government clearly doesn’t care about the voices of people affected by this — maybe they’ll listen to property owners! but no, you say, that’s too “radical,” no breaking windows allowed.

so what are people supposed to do? tuck their tails between their legs and take it? to use your word from earlier, i think it’s extremely cucked to argue that to be “adult” is to throw up your hands and say that a better world is absolutely not possible and that anyone who fights to build one is an idiot.

since we're discussing riots we've been in, I've uh...been in a bit of an unusual one.

It was at ICP's gathering of the juggalos in 2002. A woman flashed her t-ts which happens fairly often there so nothing too unusual, but the cops were determined to stop women from flashing for some reason. So they tried to grab the girl down off someone's shoulders and the crowd lost it, started pushing back and throwing s--- at them etc, tear gas came out and they kicked everyone out for like 2 hours. The festival was almost cancelled but the police didn't want the ICP crowd in town for 2 more days with nothing to do, safety was already a serious concern for the city even before the riot so a deal was worked out to open back up.

Other than someone punching a police horse and other minor arrests, there were no issues the rest of the time. Cops were idiots for trying so hard to enforce something petty like that at a music festival, caused unnecessary issues.

well in the case of red sox - which again, i was there - iirc beyond the fact the officer had mishandled firing the pepper spray pellet (which yes, was deeply wrong) the crowd was also culpable in that they didnt get the f out of the way so she could be brought to brighams like a half mile away. so again, its easy and perhaps 'fun' to call out the officer and the organization itself... bc those are known entities who can be labelled negligible. what i grapple with if the fact those rioters shouldnt have been there, and by their own indifference contributed to her death.

thats fine u and wpg disagree. but firsthand, the lack of unaccountability in mobs - let alone applauding them - personally affronts me.
