Jun 2, 2020Just got back from protesting in Atlanta a bit ago.
The protest was 100% peaceful. It was just people chanting with signs.
The police forced the dispersal of a peaceful protest by tear gassing us. We were literally kneeling when they gassed us. The pulled some Battle of the b------s a--- move where they trapped us from three sides with lines of riot cops and forced us out with gas. I’m lucky that I didn’t get the worst of the gas and had contact solution at the ready.
The cops don’t want a peaceful protest. They don’t want you to protest at all. So don’t tell me this is escalated by protestors.

Do I personally steal from wal mart? No.
But am I concerned with other people stealing from wal mart? Also no.
Wal Mart is a huge corporation run by insanely rich people who treat their employees like s--- so why would I spend time and energy caring about a $500 loss from a stolen TV that's a drop in the bucket to them? They're gonna make it up instantly with the money they save from working people a half hour under full time so they don't have to give them health insurance or give them any paid days off. Wal-Mart doesn't need any more advocates. They have billions to advocate for them.
And that's part of what it comes down to: I think society agrees with the general concept of "stealing is bad" (basically every religious text has rules against theft, so this goes back centuries and millenniums). So I don't think anyone is truly "pro-theft" as a general rule.
Most of these vandalized chain stores don't need any advocates because we all already agree that stealing is wrong and they're heavily insured anyway. But the black community does need more advocates. I'm not worried about our society turning into one that thinks stealing is OK, but I am worried about what our society is gonna look like if we keep allowing cops to abuse their power and murder people.
I just think there are bigger things at hand right now and finger-wagging at people for stealing online will, like you said, just work to further divide the cause. People on the other side were going to find a way to try to divide us no matter what. If we as a society (myself included) had paid more attention to peaceful protest and taken it more serious (not only that—people in this country straight-up condemned their peaceful protest at football games) then it didn't have to come to this.
I know you can say "well they shouldn't have rioted to divide us in the first place" but at this point what else was there to do? I'm posing that as a genuine question because I do not know. People condemned the peaceful protest and nothing has changed. For black Americans this is literally a life or death situation.Ordinary Joel, asvdawg, Fire Squad and 7 others like this. -

Disagree with death row. I would like to see them in Gen Pop.
Anyhow, my thoughts- I get why Target happened(not sure about Autozone) though I don't agree with it. Target was a half measure. They should have gone all in and gone to the officer's homes. You really want to make a statement? That's how you do it. The city and the Mayor took swift action(in comparison to past situations like this) so why burn down stores? Goto the people responsible.
Regardless, the video of Floyd being murdered might be the most egregious thing I've ever seen and whether it's Target, Autozone, the police precinct, the officer's homes- it'll pale in comparison to the guy being murdered by that inbred, Trump supporting piece of s---. That cop and the ones who stood by and watched are responsible for whatever happens from here on out.
And at the end of the day this is nothing. Dallas 2.0 will happen sooner than and it sucks for the innocent lives that will be lost.Evad, Mudkip, Ordinary Joel and 7 others like this. -

Frame it this way - if Bernie had won the Dem primary, but a slice of the Democratic party became Never Bernie-ers/crossover Trump votes/stayed at home, you'd feel some frustration at them for being sore losers, right? The post-election blame probably wouldn't leave them untouched, would it?
I think your argument is that the onus is on the candidate to expand their support, and I get that rationale (and agree with it!), I'm just wondering if it's a standard that would be consistently applied. I really haven't heard a lot of Bernie supporters grappling with why he lost the primary, it's been all about the big mean establishment conspiring against him.
Anyway, this is all theoretical - for now, Biden seems to be doing just fine, imho! If he ends up losing, my guess is that it will be due to a whole host of factors, just like it was for Clinton - including but not limited to problems with liberalsasvdawg, Ordinary Joel, DKC and 6 others like this. -
