    i don’t think the chances are down to 0 but i would have had her as a heavy favorite before this week, and now i think it’s like 90 percent it won’t be her.

    the fact that her record as a prosecutor was so suspect in general (declining to pursue cases against more than a dozen killer cops) is one thing; the fact one of the guys she let off is this killer is probably the nail in the coffin.

    Protesting and fighting back against police brutality and racism has a lot of history connected with rap music, so yeah I agree it's different than Koolo not liking drugs but being okay with listening to it on an Eminem song.

    no, that’s different. rap comes from black communities and has functioned as protest music since its beginnings, it’s politically incoherent to say “i’m a kendrick lamar fan but think protesters should be kinder to cops.” it’s the actual essence of the genre.

    that’s not the same thing. no one is saying an audience should agree with what’s depicted in art or even with an artist’s political views, but it’s irreconcilable to be a rap fan and, for example, tsk-tsk the conduct of people protesting police violence

    nah, while I don't think you need to agree with an artist's political beliefs to like their music, I do think it's kinda weird how many rap fans on here have this disconnect. I mean west coast rap (your favorite :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:) essentially began as protest music against this stuff

    i get that koolo's confused. i hate the current state of my country, but the USA are just on some different s--- and it's hard for us to get it. it's absolutely crazy and absurd that these men still aren't arrested

    I think because the us weird juridical system it will indirectly create a strong relationship between the DA and police department. They become like family

    also lets not get started on the fact that DA has the power to pursue whatever case they want

    well it’s not an either/or situation. the police are too empowered, too ungovernable, too violent. that colors their interactions with everyone. police practice are also fundamentally racist, which means non-white people bear the brunt of it.

    if i wanted i could find probably 100 cases this month of this happening. The media cant divide people by showing that though.

    let’s frame this another way tho: if they haven’t arrested him yet, and they do in the next week, it will be entirely because of the protests. that’s one of those real, material consequences jmg says don’t exist.
