Lol yeah man. Not about to fully wade in again but like, this is the issue with these emotional partisan charged movements. Ofc he shouldn’t have been shot seven times or paralyzed but that said IF if if he was reaching for a knife that’s a big wrinkle to the story. But instead folks always wanna moral soapbox and scream racist or whatever. It gets played and that instinct is tbh partly what has empowered trump to this pt. We need to be thoughtful.

do you think if we removed race as an element it would be any less troubling that when three officers are on a scene trying to control one suspect they still fire seven shots into someone’s back near children? i understand what you’re saying to an extent but where you’re advocating a step back from the culture-war elements of this, i think you’re actually reenforcing them. let’s say this wasn’t racist per se—it’d be no less troubling that this is how the police react to these situations.

@Donkey Kong Cuntry how dare you like his post, you were a registered republican until a few weeks ago.

I mean we are both right to an extent. (It’s just as always I have the big picture in mind heh.) Like I agree, police must have discretion and maybe fleeing felon laws or protocols should be changed. (To me it’s a shot in the leg, not One Officer unloading seven in the back.) certainly acted too hastily and too quickly. But no I’m not “reenforcing” anything lol wat - if anything your proving mmmmmy political point about how woke finger pointing cont to show diminishing returns. The “~~racism!!” charge was effective for years/decades, usually or generally for good cause but the rise of this president among other things demonstrates how little it matters increasingly. Sad but true

when i say reenforcing i really just mean you’re seeing it through that prism—my point is that our diagnoses of what’s going on shouldn’t be subject to, like, hoping we don’t rile up the trump folks too much. you might disagree but i think it’s naive to imagine that if we only reach some threshold of nuance and thoughtfulness that the other side will meet us halfway and work in good faith to change things. people are hailing that kid as a hero!

Nah I’m not advocating for Dems behaving in a knee jerk way that doesn’t intentionally provoke MAGA (though I could argue they kinda already react in a way design mostly to outrage and shock on its own not problem solve...) I think being conscientious about facts/context and choosing our moments would reduce the oppositions ability to play what aboutism.

And yes it’s sickening seeing that kid be hailed as anything. No words. But the progressive/activist base doesn’t get to own the disgust card on that either.
