i think we're in agreement on this, but with the emphasis on your last sentence. it's why i've said that i'm behind everything but that minority of people/actions. the bottom line is that i see looting it as self-serving.

it's difficult to argue against that *some* of the looters don't even give a s--- about the cause and are capitalizing on the unrest, and/or falling to mob mentality, to get free s---. even those who do give a s--- about the cause and are looting, the majority are still self-serving in those actions...many people would enjoy a free xbox, but how many of them are walking into target with the thought, "to stand up for injustice, i'm going to make this corporation/city/etc pay, by taking an xbox off their shelf"? not many. most are thinking "f--- yeh, i'm going to get a free xbox!"

Is there any tangible way of knowing that about the Xbox example? Like, couldn’t the exact opposite be argued, that in fact, they do know what they are doing by taking the Xbox and how it could have an affect on our society?

Even if they are self serving, isn’t the outcome that they are still sticking it to a society that values large corporations and capitalistic ideologies over black lives? Even if they aren’t aware of it.

again........................... protests are not targeting "small businesses," although i understand why you keep deploying the term. a useful red herring! also target in minneapolis does find itself entangled with police. again, out of your depth. https://slate.com/business/2020/05/targets-long-history-with-minneapolis-police.html

yes, you seeing the police beat and mace protesters after killing yet another unarmed black person in mpls and logging onto sectioneighty.com to whine about looters is the product of some very strange class/race/something baggage

unfortunately, i just don't see that as being the world that we live in. minority? sure. majority? no.
is the outcome the same? yes. but all i've been saying is that i don't agree with the looters' individual self-serving actions. because i don't believe that they're doing it for non-self-serving purposes.

am i getting to you? it seems like the fact that you've lost an argument and weren't able to rationalize your own thoughts/logic has gotten to you.

I mean I see where you’re coming from, and if these were just random lootings that took place I’d be 100% in agreement with you.

    stealing is bad, without context.

but when you look at it in response to yet another killing of a defenseless black guy, I just think it’s so minor in the grand scheme of things. I couldn’t care less about a few people making a come up on a PS4 and a couple personal pan pizzas from the mini pizza huts in the target, when the overarching purpose of the whole thing is to protest systematic racism.

would I personally do it? No. But I just can’t complain about something so unimportant, when there are greater discussions to be had. Especially, when the store is probably insured out the a--- and can afford to replace the goods a million times over.

(as we have this silly-a--- argument, jail records confirm that the st. paul mayor was lying about all arrests being out-of-towners)

And that brings me back to my key point: why are we focusing on that minority who are stealing out of selfishness?

I haven't read the whole discussion--or what lead to this or if it already hasn't been said--but the unfortunate thing that emerges from this, in huge part to the heavily sensationalized world we live in, is that these minuscule narratives get blown out of proportion. Thus, these movements are painted as these barbaric transgressions.

Racist people will remain racist people, it's hard to change perspectives (taking in mind how some individuals deal with cognitive dissonance which seems all the more apparent with certain sects...). These images unfortunately cast a dark cloud over the overall intentions of what the looting SHOULD be accomplishing, at least to those who already opposed this chain of events.

It's a difficult situation to grasp no matter how many times I replay the scenario, still I firmly believe it's as you're saying just taking into mind every detail the lead to this. I hope these images permeate through some of these hardened people and open their eyes that this country's law system is still entrenched in all types of obstructive customs/attitudes.
