I just finished the first season of Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya

Flawless. Best Mahou Shoujo and also best Fate series (even though it's a spin-off). Illya is probably the cutest girl oat after Shinobu.

Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya

Basically a spinoff from Fate/Stay Night in an alternate timeline where it's peaceful and Illya becomes a Mahou Shoujo. I'd recommend watching the main canon series first, altho I think the adaptions for Stay Night & Unlimited Blades Works are horrible.

The best place to start would be to read the VN but most people don't have 50+ hours to spend so it's whatever.

Oh, I've had the whole Fate/ franchise on the backburner for a while. There's just so much of it I found it kinda daunting. Should I watch everything Fate/ or just start with Fate/Kaleid?

honestly Prisma Illya plays on so much of the worldbuilding from the main fate series that you really should watch that first, or else you're going to miss so many references as well as plot details that they take for granted that you know

There's two main stories I'd recommend you catch first.

Fate/Stay Night
This is the original Fate story. It was first released as a Visual Novel, with three story routes that focus on different characters and end up in different places. The different routes are called Fate, Unlimited Blade Works (UBW for short) and Heavens Feel. The Fate route has an anime adaption simply called Fate/Stay Night, but it's pretty old and universally considered a terrible adaption. UBW got an adaption recently by Ufotable, and even though some people actually liked it, sane people only watched it for the fight scenes, as the story (and especially the main character) really doesn't translate well to anime format. Heavens Feel will most likely get a movie soon. Since this is the cornerstone to everything Fate related, you pretty much have to watch one of these routes in some sort of format before watching Prisma Illya. Like I said, the VN is the only good way to read this story, but if you don't want to spend 50+ hours on it you can start somewhere else:

Fate/Zero
This is the prequel to Stay Night, and the original material was released as a Light Novel. LN's for short, make for great anime adaptions and both seasons were amazing. If you don't feel like reading the Stay Night VN, this is the best place to start. Watch out for the first episode though, it's a 40 minute long infodump with around 7-8 key characters and some of them might seem very similar at first.

If you choose to watch Fate/Zero first and still don't want to read the Stay Night VN, you should probably proceed to watch the UBW anime adaption.

After you've consumed both of these stories in any shape or form you can proceed to watch Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya which is the undeniable best.

I'll go with the visual novel of Fate/Stay Night, since I'm a f---ing weeaboo loser and I love visual novels as a general rule, so sinking 50+ hours into it is not a problem. I'll also probably watch Fate/Zero after, even if it is unnecessary after the VN, just because I'm a completionist. Thanks for breaking it down and typing all that out
