We really went back to the drawing board with this one, fam. Nearly every single aspect of our design was re-imagined from the ground-up. A huge goal of ours was to simplify the design without losing any functionality -- a cleaner interface, a better experience. While we've really managed to step up the aesthetics in Section Eighty 2.0, every change you see here today was made with a specific intent: improving the posting/navigation/browsing experience. I hope that shines through as you begin to explore.

...When working on 1.0 nearly 15 months ago now, we said that our ultimate goal was to have a fully customized theme -- a style that's unique to us, that contours to our current functionality, and one that allows us to grow our vision. If you take a look at what our original stock theme looked like, and compare it to where we're at now, it'll become clear that we've succeeded:

Hasman: when he first presented this idea, I was so drawn-in that I didn't want to do anything but develop it. We succeeded in making 2.0 to the near-exact-pixel of what was originally drawn up -- the man is a visionary & a creative genius.

Koolo for his continued dedication, next-level ideas, and for aspiring to & knowing that we can do greater and be the best. d--- near every intuitive mod concept you've seen implemented here so far has been his original ideas. The man eats, sleeps, & breathes sxn80.

Loyalty: I can honestly say that 2.0 would not have happened without him. The project quickly became way too large for any one person to handle, and I likely would have had an aneurysm had it not been for him. Can't be happier with what Loyalty has brought to the team thus far. That's my partner right there.

Our Staff & Plus members: We released 2.0 to them a couple weeks ago and their input has been invaluable to helping us fine-tune what you see here today. Thanks for being dedicated to SXN 80.

Everyone else. Consider 2.0 as being a huge 'THANK YOU' for sticking with us. I know we've been teasing 2.0 for some time now, but now that it's here, I challenge the rest of the internet (not just hip-hop sites) to try to even come close to competing on our level. Stay with us. There's more good to come.

What's Next:
Know that even though we're launching 2.0 today, we already have plans for what we're tentatively calling "version 2.5". Next-next-level s---. Among those future features, expect to see PMs, profiles, & member cards to be overhauled, and to see The Portal to continue to be developed. Plus a couple other ideas that we're keeping under wraps for now..

We've invested a LOT of time in this project and I hope that you love it just as much as we do.

As a late addition to the staff, only joining in late Sept. 2015, I would like to mention how grateful we should all be for the staff and the work they put in during the first 10 months prior to that. I never knew how much time and money is invested into this site behind the scenes so that we can all enjoy discussing various topics.

Having been using a work-in-progress version of 2.0 since early November, when I had to go back to 1.0 to fix something I gasped at how much progress we made and how customized the experience now is. Unlike a lot of you, I couldn't stand Night 1.0... but now I've been using Night 2.0 for a week and it's hard to go back to Day. Luckily with that handy new day/night toggle, it's not too hard

My quick thank yous as well:

Koolo, who is willing to drop his own money into this forum on a daily basis to implement things that haven't been done before. Since I've been staffed he's been @'ing me, skyping me, and whatsapping me to fix things asap because he wants it to be a perfect experience. And I don't complain because working on this stuff for our community is much better than coding for my actual job. My favorite Koolo 2.0 feature: Most Liked Posts/Most Liked Threads: You'd think an awesome idea like this would already exist in Xenforo, but nope, that was all his idea. Custom-made.

Slyk - like I said above, I can't imagine the amount of work he's put into coding during the first 10 months of this site, basically doing it all alone. Then when 2.0 ideas came about, he jumped on the project and was working on stuff whenever possible. At one point he put in a 50 hour weekend coding the basics of Day 2.0 just so we could get it out to you all asap. Then again when he started Night 2.0... he worked on it for a few solid hours and completed most of it. And lastly - he's always able to quickly figure out a problem that I'm stuck on. The man's got work ethic! My favorite Slyk 2.0 feature: Portal avatar changer. Go to your portal, hover over the avatar - easily change it! Slyk came up with this last minute which just goes to show the custom add-ons for S80 will keep on coming!

Everything you see before you was created by Mike Tyson. When I first logged into the Staff section and saw several beautiful mockups of the portal, home page, several dropdown menus, the news page... I thought there was no way we can do something this custom and creative. Any time the staff sent an idea his way, he soon gave us an awesome mockup. Even though he's not a coder he put just as many hours in as the coders, if not more, creating everything you see on the site from the mockups to icons to graphics. My favorite Mike Tyson 2.0 feature: Account dropdown user title updater. (Inspired by able) - Don't worry about going to your settings and finding the right field to change that little user title under your name. Just hover over your name up top, click on your current title, edit and save!

And another BIG thank you to staff, mods, vets, plus, social media, news/leaks team, and everyone else for keeping the forum going while we were distracted and busy updating the site. A special thanks to Ordinary Joel who took on the huge role of global mod during this project and has been doing exceptional. And another thank you to Cyreides for providing the background music for the video in the OP.

A few quick shoutouts to the plus section for helping us debug 2.0 before official release! I missed the first few days on a cruise to Mexico, but since I have been back the following have been a great help in pointing out problems/inconsistencies: able, Jet, Mano, rapmusik, and many more.

One of the first things I wanted to do here was to revamp the way we approach modding—obviously we need people to do the nitty gritty stuff like moving threads and banning spacemonkey, but I always thought that they could take a more "official" role in creating content. For that reason, we've decided to revive sxn-specific moderators in addition to our team of global mods.

I call them SXN Ambassadors rather than SXN mods because, while they still have mod powers, their primary goal is to make creative threads and foster good discussion. Though SXN80 hit a slump in 2018 that lasted for nearly two years, we've had somewhat of a renaissance the past year that I think we can keep up beyond quarantine with the help of the Ambassadors, mods, and the rest of the forum.

So please welcome...

@Chuny as our Ambassador for the EminemSXN!

@Captain Awesome AKA Papa as our EntertainmentSXN Ambassador!

@Grim and @yeez2 as our Life SXN Ambassadors!

@Antman @Jeans and @Chrollo for our MusicSXN Ambassadors!

@Tyler is also going to be helping with the CreativeSXN and other aspects of the site, but isn't an official Ambassador.

In addition, some of our global mods are gonna be helping out the Ambassadors out with their SXNs—which is really more a matter of making things more formal because they've been breathing life into these SXNs for awhile now:

So in the last few months I've been pretty inactive, due to a combination of irl responsibilities and a general lack of interest. While I was "away", I used other means to get my music news, most notably fb groups. What I would consider to be the "main" fb group I used saw insane success and growth (from 3k to 8k in a matter of days) and it got me wondering how a fb community could do so well but a site with an admin team as dedicated as ours can't. I think I've figured out the main reasons and have ideas on how to fix them.

-First of all, there's a pretty obvious divide in the forum. There's Em SXN, and then there's everyone else. Now, ofc, there are some great Em SXN regulars who contribute, but they're few and far between while awful cancerous shitposters are a dime a dozen. Now, to my understanding, the argument for keeping Em SXN is that its our biggest sxn and we'd be losing a huge chunk of our members, but that huge chunk is the whole reason the rest of the forum hardly experiences any growth. I'd say around 90% of Em SXN posters are so cancerous they actively discourage new members from signing up EXCEPT for other equally s--- users who share their view. We're turning away dozens of @Jehovah's and @Thy's to accomodate ppl like @ConspiracyGang and the like.

@Koolo I'm sure you're familiar with the expression you gotta spend money to make money, well in this case you gotta lose members to get members. No one wants to join a forum where its 3 dudes discussing new music and 12 ppl saying it's s--- and recommending MMLP2 instead.

-Secondly, and I mean this with as much love as possible, our marketing is horrendous. Our biggest means of exposure are our fb pages for the respective SXNs, half of which are dead (the pages not the sxns) and the ones that are popular post normie trash "the mind, the heart, the soul" type memes that only draw in more normie trash stans like we got after TPAB. If we want to draw in new GOOD members through those memes, we need a total overhaul in that department. You can still post all the Kendrick and drake memes in the world just don't share the ones my weird uncle who preaches about reel hip hop shares, because then you're gonna get 100 new members who only f--- with REEL HIP HOP. As I've mentioned to staff before I'd be more than willing to help in this department.

Tldr, we need to trim the fat from s80 and market ourselves towards ppl who listen to music this decade otherwise we're gonna remain stagnant. If staff disagrees pls don't lock thread I'm just tryna create a healthy discussion about the future of our site.

(also a lot of what I said of em sxn could apply to cole but em sxn is the more pressing issue)

i been thinking of ways to better define "Plus" and active posters...Plus is something you get when you get to 12k points...an icon, and an access to a SXN....but 12k points would take new members a year to get...so i thought of other ways that might encourage people to be active

Enter custom icons

every Monday, a cron will run that will calculate and assign members to a group if they meet the following criteria
Member posted 200 times in the last 7 days

if you meet the criteria, you will join a group called "Active posters" and you will remain in that group for 7 days...then the cron will run again, if you still meet the criteria, you will remain..if not, you will be kicked out of it

when you are in this group, you have access to basically shitload of icons you can use

so who fits the criteria for this week?

if you want it, post 200 times before next monday

also the app is coming within a week...lets get it poppin

btw custom alerts will go out when you promoted/demoted starting next monday

i have a made a mistake 6 months ago, when i accepted that @BorisTheBlade do the app for free..i shouldnt have done that, thats cruel of me and put a stress on him as he is a grown man with 4 kids that he has to feed..and simply couldnt find the time to do it..i have offered him 3 grands and he accepted to do it for 2.5 out of his kind heart

i wanna say i respect Boris fully..he has been a complete gentleman to me..and has been truthful and upfront about everything

if you remember our blog, it was very sucessful, it closed down because 95% of the work was done by only two guys, mike tyson and odb...for two young men who also has studies, it was too much to handle

this time im gonna aggressively look for bloggers to assemble a team...im looking for 10-15 ODBs...people who will post 3-7 articles a day...now i realize most people wont just blog for free..so i came up with a system

Ad revenue sharing system
for each article you post, the blogger will get 75% of the revenue the ads generate..SXN80 will only get 25%...how does this work?...well once you sign up as a blogger you will have a dashboard like this ..if you notice you will have a tab called advertise

now, in here..each author will be able to put his own ad code (SXN80 will not help you obtain this, you must get your own approval from adsense or any other ad company you want..keep in mind pop up is not allowed and you will be banned if you use it)...and then each time you post an article...two ads on the page will be yours...and the third one will be SXN80...this way you will be paid automatically through your own ad account without sxn80 needing to handle payments at all

this mean, the more you blog..the more money you will get

for people interested, pm me...i will be aggressively looking for bloggers through reddit ads and social media, park a spot now !

1- the cost to build 3.0 is quickly getting out of hand, i have spent close to a grand so far on the mods i created already, and will need to spend another $1500 to build it, i encourage you guys to give a helping hand to poor Koolo by donating here

2- Plus is removed effectively now, there will be no more plus icon nor plus forum going forward, there will be a section for donors and an icon for donors (the key icon), there will be a monthly promotion/demotion based on the donations, if you donated $5 or more, you will be in the donor class for the next 30 days of your donation

Chrollo was an easy choice for mod because he's everything a good poster should be: thoughtful, funny, and intelligent, knowledgeable about up and coming artists and music in general, and never loses his cool even when people are pulling some absolute fuckshit. He's already been killing it as Music Ambassador keeping the sxn active and contributing to SXN80 playlists, and I have no doubt he'll be a great mod.

3.0 is around the corner, and we can assure you it will be the greatest forum design/functionality in history...however, launching it at S80 current state feels like s---...we are running out of members, we are planning to email all current members once we launch 3.0, but we have decided to also give banned members a second shot and unban everyone
