How did you get into it?

I don't wanna make a career out of it but would like to do it as a weekend job or something, just think I'd be pretty dope.

I recently wanted to do this same thing but I feel it would be too much work for a hobby

it's really, really hard to be a great dj, but not that difficult to be a passable one. get serato, practice at home, befriend promoters.

    Waddup bruh

I was never a club DJ. I dont really enjoy the sound of what those guys put out. Mixing any random song over any random beat covered in lots of scratching, jumps and rewinds. I get why that s----s good for the club but for me it just sounds really f---in messy and I dont like it. Im more interested in producing and sound engineering which I use to blend and remake songs.

I'm not even aware of the full duties a club DJ covers... why would it be TOO much work?

I'm not tryna be wordclass or make a living. I dunno man, I always get people coming up to me asking them to make them a playlist for whatever, asking for new songs, I have a pretty good knowledge when it comes to hip hop and rnb whether old or new, pop knowledge is okay aswell, I was at an event this weekend and the DJ was a--- and I was just thinking to myself I could do so much better than this guy

Me either tbh but quickly thinking about it you would have to not only stay up on what music you enjoy but what the masses enjoy. Not that that isnt something music music fans do on a regular but it is a bit of work. You would also need to purchase all of the equipment that you need to be a quality DJ. For me it would be hard to make time to do these things between college, work, studying and personal life. probably would end up being more stressful than enjoyable

I'll probably just stick to impressing my friends with my knowledge/taste of music and continue to "dj" at smaller gatherings

Funny you made this thread, I just applied to be the DJ at a bar up at school. But all I will have to do is bring my laptop and play music for 6 hours every other weekend.

I've thought about becoming one, but my music taste/style isn't mainstream enough for it, and I'm not sure how to even go about doing something like DJing so I've completely avoided it, in spite of repeated offers in my surrounding area.

I know a fair amount of them. As much as I don't like clubs I've always seemed to be friends with the people involved with them. I don't know if it's different here in Australia but for memory I think they generally got $50-$100 for an hour set and then about $5 a head for every person that used their guest list. I mean, if you're a popular guy it can definitely be a handy hobby/job on the side.

It's not my thing, i play originals live, yeah, but my music im currently feeling is like too extreme for the public around here, though everyone seems to dig electro stuff

its whatever, if i shift to the states, i might give it a whirl

I DJ'ed a wedding a while back. Got a bunch of people trying to get me to DJ other events. Honestly, if you got the equipment, that's a big starting point.
