    I would just tell your story all over again. They prob just think you are trying to fix your laptop on the cheap and then buy a competitors in the future. At least by doing this they can cover their "store policy" line of replacing the battery but they are also guaranteeing your story is true and you will actually come back in the future to buy a new laptop.

    Update: I took it into the Apple store in Chicago yesterday and they had no issue pulling out the battery. guy asked the manager, manager said absolutely. no questions asked, and i didn't need to dive into my previous experience. good guy, chi.

    Likewise, i ended up emailing Tim Cook (not because i'm foolish enough to think that he'd reply personally, but because apparently that's how you get in contact with the people who can get s--- done at Apple). i emailed them last night at like midnight, and by mid day today, i received a phone call from one of their "Executive Liaisons". We spoke for about 15 minutes. the short: they agree that the battery was dangerous and that they absolutely side with me and firmly believe that the store should have done the right thing and removed the dangerous part. they're going to follow-up directly with the store to see what "store policy" the dumbass manager was referring to.

    midway through our convo, he pulled in a senior safety/tech who wanted to touch base to make sure that i hadn't been harmed by the battery and that my mbp was in a safe state. unnecessary for my situation, but i appreciated that they would make the effort to do that as well.

    i had to cut out for a business call towards the end, and the first individual ended up calling me back later on again to ensure that everything was good, to offer sympathies, and to re-iterate that he plans to follow-up on the incident.

    in the end, both employees offered up their direct phone numbers and imo it was handled really really well.

    So I guess you could conclude that your previous experience didn't represent Apple as a whole now?
    Glad it turned out well.. that was very professional
    That manager needs to be fired.

    yup, that's customer service i'm used to. good to know they pulled through for you

    @Slyk I'm glad to hear that everything is good now. The first store you've went to must have been really strange and not one Apple would be proud of. Hopefully that b-----a--- manager will get replaced by someone similar to who you talked with on the telephone. :emoji_thumbsup:

    Apple is great when you're covered by warranty but the second it expires they try to f--- you. I remember I tried to hang onto my classic ipod 5th gen which was a beast. I really didn't want to upgrade to ipod touch, not because it was expensive, but because the classic was so much easier to use if you were driving or changing a song while going for a run. So anyway i had it for a few years and it worked fine but the battery was starting to not hold a charge. So I went to the "genius" bar to see how much a battery replacement would be out of warranty and they wanted to charge me something ridiculous like $150. So of course when you look astonished at how much it costs they try to upsell you with the newer ipod which is only $50 more.

    I know. I wound up getting an ipod touch but hated using it for exercising so I got a classic battery and a kit online to replace it. I was able to get the new battery hooked up but I f----- something up and it stopped working and the case wouldn't close
