Jul 25, 2016 So, I had an interesting idea for a thread in this section. Just as artists are very important to the culture and life of whatever particular city/state they are from and usually rep it wherever they go, athletes are the exact same way. My question today is comparing and seeing if an artist from his particular city/state has more of a cultural impact and greater importance to the people of his/her location than an athlete competing in the same location. I want to be comparing obvious greats that repped major locations and are also very important and influential in their respective careers and I think it could be a fun way to see who comes out on top more often. I plan on comparing artists to athletes from many different sports and will not stick to just one. I am definitely open to a location suggestion for a future thread if enough people reply to this one! For the first one, I figured why not go big and compare two of the greatest to ever rep Chi-town. The poll will stay open for 48 hours. Of course, on the artist side we have the GOAT, Kanye West, one of the most influential musicians of all time, who's influence has gone far beyond music at this point. And competing against him would be the greatest Chicago athlete of all time, and arguably one of the greatest ATHLETES of all time, Michael Jordan. His highlight reel is incredible and clutch moments are nearly unmatched. And 6 rings. So, if you had to pick one, who is more important to the culture and life of CHICAGO: The athlete or the artist?
Jul 25, 2016 d--- I'm not so sure here. In their primes then I'd say MJ I think. His impact was global as well as cultural for Chicago. Since both are past their primes it's a little harder to judge. MJ nowadays is almost the face of NC while Ye hardly spends anytime in Chicago.
Jul 25, 2016 Hey, somebody responded lmao. Thanks! Yeah, I don't know how I side. 6/6 rings with the Bulls is flat-out insane and ridiculous for the city. But Kanye is basically 7/7 on albums (8/8 with WTT) and now has such a pull in fashion and has been transforming the sound of music with almost every release. I think it's very hard. I think Ye represents Chicago superbly. Like, when I think of Chicago, I believe that I think of Ye before MJ, but that's just me.
Jul 25, 2016 This too d--- hard bro, as someone who's from Chicago I can't answer this. Both legends to the city.
Jul 25, 2016 Even Kanye probz my 2nd fav artist of all time I'd have to go MJ, just because he has probably had a bigger impact and he in undeniably the greatest basket ball player of all time. And he still lives in the Chi which I don't think Ye does.
Jul 26, 2016 If we are just going by your actual question at the end of your post, it's pretty easily Jordan.
Jul 26, 2016 Hey, I respect it. I picked Ye (think I'm the only one so far) but it was d--- near impossible for me to pick against MJ tha GOAT.
