May 25, 2022 I think there's two ways for Atlanta to wrap up...one being a continuation of this seasons themes (race, class, parenting, black vs white, good and evil) with a focus on ambiguity and think pieces and the other leaning deep into the weird supernatural elements that were sort of at play this season. Donald Glover previously stated that he "just always wanted to make Twin Peaks with rappers," and "Television shows are like novels. You just got to invest in them,” added Glover. “The tone of this, it’s going to take people time to figure out what’s going on, which I think is a good thing.” If you're familiar with Twin Peaks (created by David Lynch, Mark Frost) it basically started off as a small-town murder mystery series before evolving into something vastly different with interdimensional beings, supernatural elements, alternate timelines, doppelgangers, possessions, good and evil, etc. If Glover's initial vision of Atlanta stays true to what he originally envisioned (especially with the post-credit sequence indicating that White Earn was true to the reality of Atlanta's world) it could get weird. In the season premiere, White Earn said ""With enough blood and money, anyone can be white. It's always been that way,” and then in episode 4 "Maybe it’s only right,” he says, explaining to Marshall that a curse has been lifted. “Now we’re free,”" before killing himself as if the curse would be lifted. The post-credits sequence has Donald Glover's Earn literally and (maybe) metaphorically inheriting the White Earn's baggage. Could be grasping at straws, and it might just be a metaphor for how money and fame = bad, but who knows. I'd love for it to do a Twin Peaks style switch up.
Sep 20, 2022 I feel like there is more going on than it seems but I don’t have the energy to figure it out. Need someone smarter than me to do it. Pretty sure @LasiK was right and there is some weird Twin Peaks alternative universe metaphoric mastery going on and that most people are missing it by taking these episodes at face value. All the “reviews” these days seem to just plainly and boringly state what happens in each episode with no insight and reading through reddit it seems like pretty much everyone is just taking this as a linear plot continuation. I could definitely be wrong but I really don’t think that is the right way to view these episodes
Sep 21, 2022 Is it just me or is there barely any hype around this show on social media? I remember when Euphoria's new season came out and almost everyone on my timeline talked about it. But I've yet to see one comment about Atlanta.
Sep 21, 2022 Not to mention Euphoria reaches a much wider demographic. Teens, drugs, sex, drama, gender and sexuality issues... Zendaya. Atlanta, while more critically praised, just doesn't have the same reach.
Sep 21, 2022 I agree for the most part, but Teddy Perkins has the same, if not more of a reach than Zendaya. Teddy is the voice of a new generation
Sep 21, 2022 Every Sunday at 9pm HBO show becomes a cultural stalwart because they spend billions of dollars promoting and astroturfing them
Sep 27, 2022 Was not into that deangelo stuff ngl. A “success isn’t as great as it seems” trope would be a highly disappointing conclusion to Earn. I like where Paper Boi’s arc is going tho. Need more Darius asap
Sep 28, 2022 It's entertaining. Not groundbreaking or revolutionary but I like watching the episodes. I wonder what Donald Glover will do after this show wraps up..
Sep 28, 2022 Still a great show. I think people are going to be disappointed when it ends. Atlanta is going nowhere fast, and that’s okay. I don’t think it’ll wrap up in a neat little bow for the average viewer.
Oct 7, 2022 I thought this Mr. Chocolate-charactere was supposed to represent someone like Dan Schneider at first.
