    This guy is legit writing doubles & triples to a level where it’s detrimental to him because a lot of people simply don’t understand them, and then when he has an average bar people hate because it’s not good in comparison & his standard is so high

    Like genuinely, take away the changing flows etc that some people don’t like and just look at his writing—no one can write like Em. No one.

    All his disses for MGK & Budden are so creative. Once Em gets going in a scheme it’s just so enjoyable to listen to, and it’s even better when he’s going at someone

    Listened again I really like this version. Just missing the gangsta's paradise part and the ending is, despite no s-----y beat change, still pretty awful flow wise

    Kinda agree except I really hate the beat change. I was glad it wasn't on this one but then he switched up his flow again smh

    I dunno its like he's doing it on purpose. A nice verse, but ruining parts of it w a fast part, or choppy part or whatever. He was flowing so well why switch it up to that weird a--- screamy flow ?

    I just realized the line "hand him his a--- but" is not just a simple "a--- - butt" wordplay but also he's smoking and handing him (passing) his a--- (s-----y, low quality) butt (as in a cigarette/weed butt)

    I know it sounded like some sort of Reddit post, but I’m being serious.

    It may not be your kind of music, but you can’t deny how incredible his writing is. I’m talking strictly the way he’s writing these bars, not delivery—of course it’d be better if he flowed like his TES days with these lyrics.

    Look at his recent verses, almost all of his bars are at least doubles. Not to mention Never Love Again & Darkness being 5 minutes of double/triple entendres.

    As I said, not everyone’s cup of tea and his flow at times doesn’t do his lyrics the justice they deserve imo. His writing is objectively extremely impressive. Not sure this is even debatable at this point.

    I'm not debating that I'm rolling my eyes at the notion that the reason people don't like it is because they're too dumb to understand it. I know em is a brilliant writer at his best and I didn't say anthing about the writing of this particular song. It's just weak to assume the reason someone doesn't like something is because they didn't get a punchline that anyone with a smart phone can look up on rap genius.

    That’s not what I said though. I said a lot of people simply don’t understand them, therefore can’t appreciate them. I’m not implying they’re too stupid to understand them—although obviously some are lol—but rather that they’ll trash bars without actually understanding what the meaning behind them is.

    You’re not stupid if a bar goes over your head the first few times. I sometimes only catch bars years later and that’s what makes layered writing so great...to me anyway.

    Maybe they should use that smartphone to look on Rap Genius—and that’s part of the aforementioned detriment itself if you have to look up lyrics and meanings on Rap Genius, rather than understand them instantly. Some people don’t like doing that, understandably, so that’s where writing at a high level has some downsides.
