Jun 26, 2015 @Koolo is 100% correct in his analysis of the "peaked" line. It is an inappropriate line in the context of the song. The first three verses are from Mathew's perspective, exactly how the first three verses of Stan are from stan's perspective. @Nori , @WPG , and whoever else is defending it, its a s-----y line, period. It cannot be from Eminem's perspective because it is literally an illustration of MATTHEW looking into the house. Eminem just f----- up for some reason. The only explanation I can find for it that perhaps Mathew was mocking Eminem when he said that but that may be a reach. Nonetheless, the execution of that line was very bad. However...If you really take a step back, both 'Stan' and 'Bad Guy' are Eminem talking to himself from the perspective of symbolic figments of his own imagination so the real intent of the line is irrelevant. The execution on sections of Bad Guy was abysmal whereas the execution across "Stan" was stellar, from a writer's perspective.
Jun 26, 2015 i think that the " like i reached my full potential" line it's just a pun Matthew is making . I consider the whole first half of the song to be Matthew talking/ rapping to a tape recorder, something like last Stan verse. Nobody reached his full potential, it's just Matthew trying to act funny and clever.
Jun 26, 2015 I'm pretty sure the production of the 4th verse is almost exactly the same as the song used for 28 days later
Jun 26, 2015 i just assumed matthew reached his full potential and peaked because it sounds good but what do i know
Jun 26, 2015 Well he's not saying he literally did he's just saying it's like he reached his full potential because he peaked. He's not saying he reached any potential he's saying he's doing the word used to describe reaching your full potential. Which is peak/peek But you're right it's an awful line lol
Jun 26, 2015 "Here's your bronco hat you can have that s--- back cus they s---" "Russell Wilson fallin way back in the draft, turn nothin into somethin"
Jun 26, 2015 Only thing I quoted was "slim chauvinist pig" and that's not from the 4th verse (which was what the post you quoted was about) are you okay?
Jun 26, 2015 "LIKE I reached my full potential" = hitting your peak In the song, Matthew peaked thru the window the 2nd meaning is that it applies to em's career That's all there is to it smh lol
Jun 26, 2015 Yeah there's obviously many old verses that I prefer over this one but it's still great. I personally like the Matthew part of the song more just cause of all the references and s---
Jun 26, 2015 It's great, although it's kindve lost replay value for me tbh. Besides the part about the s--- clogging the toilet or whatever. I really like the first verse tho idk why people s--- on the rest of the song it's the only song on the album that stands up to his old stuff.
Jun 26, 2015 This was a great f---ing verse. It's probably some of the deepest self reflection ever heard on an Em track. We find out after Matthew and Eminem plunge into the ocean that Matthew and Stan are a personification of Em's thoughts, fears, insecurities and the karma he faces for making a career out of hurting people with his lyrical shock value. The stan story, his MMLP saga, and his career come full circle all in one verse. It is overrated and not as quality as his old stuff just because his the music in his prime was perfect if not d--- near. A line like the toilet clogged line is can't be found in his golden era stuff because his wit was way sharper than that. But it's expected because he's older now. It's not a top 20 verse but it's up there with Deja Vu as the best modern Em verse and right outside of that top 20. As a longtime diehard Em fan and a hip hop head, I appreciated this for what it was: a more mature, insightful Em painting a self-portrait of the walking contradiction that is Eminem.
