2014 had plenty of good music, haven't really taken time to compare ever release but 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Run The Jewels 2 & PRhyme were obvious standouts.

Takin it back a bit with some of my hip-hop favorites from 1987 - 2000:

'87 - Paid in Full / Criminal Minded
'88 - Follow the Leader / Strictly Business / Straight Outta Compton / Critical Beatdown
'89 - Unfinished Business / No One Can Do It Better
'90 - Funky Technician / Wanted: Dead or Alive
'91 - The Low End Theory / Death Certificate / Step in the Arena / We Can't Be Stopped
'92 - The Chronic / Daily Operation / Whut? Thee Album / Live and Let Die
'93 - Midnight Marauders / Doggystyle / 36 Chambers / Bacdafucup / The Bliss Album / In God We Trust / Enta Da Stage / No Need For Alarm
    '94 - Illmatic / Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik / Ready to Die / 6 Feet Deep / Stress: The Extinction Agenda / AmeriKKKa's Nightmare / Regulate
'95 - Me Against The World / The Infamous / Dogg Food / All We Got Iz Us / Liquid Swords / E. 1999 Eternal / On Top of the World
'96 - All Eyez On Me / ATLiens / Reasonable Doubt / 7 Day Theory / h--- On Earth / Ridin Dirty / It Was Written / Muddy Waters / Nocturnal
    '97 - Life After Death / The Equinox / R U Still Down / Ghetto D
'98 - Aquemimi / It's Dark and h--- Is Hot / The Dude / Moment of Truth / Life or Death
'99 - Chronic 2001 / Slim Shady LP / Black on Both Sides / Things Fall Apart / First Come, First Served / Internal Affairs / Operation: Doomsday
'00 - Marshall Mathers LP / Train of Thought / Mind Over Matter / Supreme Clientele / Sad Clown Bad Dub II / Let's Get Free

Safe to say my personal "golden age" of hip-hop was between 1993 and 1996. A couple down years followed, before picking up again with many great releases coming in 1999 and 2000. I'll take my favorite albums from this 14-year period over the next 14 years any day.

I think it's great, I like this sites design a lot. Could use a bit more sections because the music sections pretty much 90% hip hop & I'm sad the DL section doesn't exist, I found a few reliable sites to get what I want when I want though so I'm not tripping lol.

Kendrick hasn't released a project since 2012, yet he kept his name on peoples lips. Chance the rapper was a flavour of the year rapper..

I wasn't writing a dissertation, just stating the Underachievers tape was far superior in the eyes of most cultured rap fans. If you want to discuss that further.. do so, my post was a 'would be' precursor for anyone to challenge that view.

I was born in 89 so i figured that was a good place to start. Probably forgot a few but only started listening to hip hop around 2002/3, I’ve always found my favourite period to be mid 90s. admittedly, my knowledge of hip hop during the 80s and and early 90s isn’t very good (besides NWA, De La and ATCQ). Also, these are personal favourites - not necessarily the best album.

1989: 3 Feet High & Rising - De La Soul
1990: People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm - A Tribe Called Quest
1991: Death Certificate - Ice Cube
1992: The Chronic - Dr. Dre
1993: Enter the 36 Chambers - Wu Tang Clan / Doggystyle - Snoop Dogg
    1994: Illmatic - Nas
1995: The Infamous - Mobb Deep / Liquid Swordz - GZA / Only Built for Cuban Linx - Raekwon
1996: Ironman - Ghostface Killah / The Score - The Fugees / h--- on Earth - Mobb Deep
1997: The War Report - CNN
1998: Its Dark & h--- Is Hot - DMX / Black Star - Mos Def & Talib Kweli
    1999: 2001 - Dr. Dre
2000: MMLP - Eminem / Supreme Clientelle - Ghostface / Violent by Design - Jedi Mind Tricks
    2001: Stillmatic - Nas / Blueprint - Jay-Z
2002: The Eminem Show - Eminem
2003: Get Rich or Die Tryin- 50 Cent / Rip the Jacker - Canibus
2004: College Dropout - Kanye West
2005: The Documentary - The Game / Be - Common / Late Registration - Kanye West
    2006: h--- Hath no Fury - Clips / Food & Liquor - Lupe Fiasco
    2007: Graduation - Kanye West
2008: Carter III - Lil’ Wayne
    2009: OB4CL II - Raekwon
    2010: MBDTF - Kanye West
2011: Watch the Throne - Kanye & Jay
2012: Good Kid, Maad City -Kendrick Lamar
    2013: Doris - Earl Sweatshirt
2014: My Krazy Life / Run the Jewels II/ Piñata (haven’t decided what I like better yet)

Because he chose not to. Not because he was forgotten about.
When Chance drops his debut album it will have plenty of hype.

Nah, it's because the rap community/media don't care, there's a reason his name wasn't mentioned on Control.

So thats why whenever he released a Social Experiment song it was trending.
He is getting alot of streams on soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/chancetherapper . Just because u dislike the artist your not looking at Chance's popularity impartially.

He's in the early B.O.B. lane tbh, not necessarily in terms of style but level-wise, Kendrick forgot he existed when he wrote Control. You never hear people talking about Chance like that, in the media or between fans; yes.. you're right, he does have a cult following but it doesn't transcend far enough into the rap game.

Much more important to have a cult following than to be talked about in the media which isn't even that important. The most important thing is the music & Acid Rap was crictically acclaimed.
