    SHUDEYE Kerser is the sickest.

Average year imo. Kerser - Lifestyle and Lil Tjay - True 2 Myself are my two favourites I'd say.

It's crazy, I know I heard a few albums. But I didn't really give a s--- about Rap or music in general this year. I was more interested in TV and film. Usually it's more of a 50/50 split but this year, its been overwhelmingly on the TV/film side. Rap really doesn't mean as much to me.

I wouldn't say it was a bad year for music outright, but it was definitely much thinner compared to years like 2014-2016. I will say, while there were a lot of albums I liked, there weren't a ton that I LOVED.

    Future - The WZRD
    Thug - So Much Fun
Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Bandana
    Denzel Curry - Zuu
Rico Nasty & Kenny Beats - Anger Management
Greedo & Mustard - Still Summer in the Projects
    Greedo & Kenny - Netflix & Deal
    Megan Thee Stallion - Fever
Baby Keem - DIE FOR MY b----
    Yung Bans - Misunderstood
Juice Wrld - Death Race for Love
    Danny Brown - unknowhatimsayin?
Dababy - KIRK / Baby on Baby
Dreamville - Revenge of the Draemers III
    Earthgang - Mirrorland
    Teejayx6 - The Swipe Lessons
    Maxo Kream - Brandon Banks
    Playboy Carti leaks
    Yandhi leaks

Still haven't checked out any of the griselda tapes from this year or Polo G or JPEG Mafia or Little Simz or Rapsody. Among many others lol.

    Twitter. Here. Rap group chats.

Rap is probably my #1 interest and I'm a feelancer so it's easy for me to listen to a few new albums a day while I'm working if I feel like it. I can keep my finger somewhat on the pulse that way, but even so there are still a ton of albums on my list that I haven't listened to yet. Getting recs from people here and on twitter definitely helps.

The vast majority of artists still have to go through a label, it's just easier to pump things out because they don't have to worry about physical media and finalizing tracklists months in advance so they can get printed on album art/CDs. I wouldn't say that there's necessarily more outright BAD music because of streaming, but there's definitely more middle-of-the-road music. You end up listening to a lot more albums that are just OK/solid/decent. It's the same way with video streaming. There's tons and tons of netflix original series now, and I feel like most of them I watch are mid. Like I don't necessarily regret using my time to watch them, but they don't stick with me in any profound way.

PS have you checked out Earthgang - Mirrorland? If you like Outkast you will probably like them.

True, there's so much stuff available out there these days, it's hard to pick what to listen to.

As you said, Netflix. There are so many d--- series now that I find myself spending more time debating what to watch than actually watching something lol.

I'm not complaining because there's never been more choice but it seems like it has shortened my attention span and I find it hard to pick a movie or series and commit to it.

Yes I have listened to Earthgang - Mirrorland. Not sure if it was you or someone else who suggested it but I discovered them from this thread.

    https://forum.sectioneighty.com/loo...ist-recommendations-no-mumble-rappers.t235944

I didn't love the entire album but there were a solid 3-4 songs that I really, really liked and added to my library. Will definitely continue to check them out in the future.

The best discovery I had with that thread was Freddie Gibbs. I had seen him before on some features but had never listened to his stuff or any of his albums for that matter.

I'm usually pretty picky when it comes to adding albums to my library so if I don't like at least 1/3 of the album i'll pick out songs individually and delete the rest. But there was just so much s--- I loved from Freddie Gibbs albums/mixtapes. I kept 4 of his albums. 2 of them being mixtapes. And there's still some I haven't heard yet.

Btw, out of curiosity. What type of work do you do as a freelancer?

d---, it's pretty cool that you can make a living out of that. Where do you get jobs from? Different websites and stuff, writing reviews?

This has been a handy thread. I'd heard of Denzel Curry but d--- that album is f---ing flames. The 03 Greedo/Mustard tape's pretty good too.

Honestly most of the jobs I get are through word of mouth/referrals, but I also have consistent work with a company I've been working with a long time. Like it could be something as simple as my uncle needing his website rewritten or a friend of a friend I meet needs something edited. And sometimes I'll get forwarded a job from friends who work in the same industry who are too busy to take it.

Zuu (Clean Version as I advertised to @Big Cuntry )
    Zuu
    Playboi Carti leaks
    Still Summer In The Projects
    Perfect 10
    Anger Management
The Wizrd (only album I truly attached myself too besides Zuu)
    So Much Fun
    Long Live Mexico
    Bandana
    Brandon Banks
Every Max B & Griselda project released this year

I wouldn't call it a lost year, even looking at it from a purely rap scope. A lot of these imma look back fondly on.

Carti was my rapper aoty, dude created a zeitgeist altogether, just cause his raps sounded like a character dialogue straight out of Banjo-Kazooie

I believe it was just those two Max B projects, I must have been thinking of his features towards the end of the year (namely Purple Haze 2)
