    MTY VERY SHALLOW LISTENING

I think I prefer Salad Days and 2 but Another One is still very good.

Although his next album is definitely make it or break it for me as he really needs to change it up soon.

If we're only going with hip hop albums:
    1. TPAB
    2. Compton
    3. Summertime '06
    4. B4.DA.$$
    5. IYRTITL
    6. Barter 6
These are the only hip hop albums worth any attention imo.

i haven't even listened to 10 hip hop albums that came out this year, so i can't form a top 10 list. i still enjoy hip hop, but my interest in it isn't what it once was. that said, here are my thoughts on a few albums i've heard

compton-- although dre has a great track record with his first two albums, my expectations for compton weren't that high. rappers don't get better with age and i can't imagine dr.dre being that motivated to make music at this stage of his career. so i wasn't expecting an album as good as his first two. that said, i was mildly surprised with compton. it's definitely not as good as his first two albums, but it's a solid-good project that has a different sound (which will probably throw a lot of ppl off) compared to his first two albums. for example, it's all on me isn't a typical dr. dre sounding song, but its still very good and it's sort of a reflection track. i also think genocide is one of the standout tracks on the album...and it sounds more like a typical dr. dre sounding song. overall, i'd give it a 7 out of 10 if i had to rate it. i'll definitely come back to this album, but not nearly as much as i will the chronic or 2001

barter 6- my expectations for this were high because young thug is supposedly one of the best rappers right now. i think this album starts off great with constantly hating. i like that song a lot and its one of the stand out tracks IMO. numbers is also really great, as is halftime. as a whole, i don't see what's so special about the album and it doesn't get me excited about hip hop. i don't think young thug sucks, he's solid, but he doesn't stand-out to me as someone who's unique or special. i'll admit that song WPG posted was pretty good but then again its just ONE song. i mean, if young thug was trying to acquire NEW fans, this album doesn't exactly knock your socks off. overall, i'd give it a 6 out of 10.

to p---- a butterfly- i really liked kendricks debut, it flows really well and it seems to be a concept album. its also very straight-forward. however, i feel like he took a different approach with this to p---- a butterfly. it seems like he's trying to be too deep on this album, and i think that's why it doesn't work as well as his first album. the blacker the berry is one of the more straight forward tracks, but as a whole, the album definitley has more tracks where there's a lot to absorb. there's just sooooo much going on during this album and it's a bit overwhelming at times. i guess that's why it didn't work for me. overall, i'd give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 i still like kendrick, though i'm def not as big on him as most, but he's a very interesting rapper and his subject matter doesn't bore me. my thing with kendrick is he doesn't have enough songs that blow me away.

so that's my objective view on these albums. i'll def re-visit these albums from time to time, but like many of the albums i hear nowadays, most of them just don't get my excited about the genre. i don't know, maybe my standards are too high? i don't feel like that's the case, but it's a possibility

Dr.Dre's song in 2015 doesn't have to sound like typical west-coast production with scott storch esque keys all over it. That's why I don't understand people who can be put off (as you said) by hearing production on Compton. They aren't really that abstract to make a cringe on your face while listening to it. If we delved into this album, we would see that there are a lot of Dre's signature elements in almost every song (if not in every). They aren't visible at first glance, but if you really care about that and you can't form an opinion, you can easily hear it. You just have to be focused and try to avoid any kind of distractions.

in fact, 2001 also very differentiates from The Chronic. Those two albums were also very different sonically, that's why arguments that Compton isn't good, because it doesn't sound like a Dre album are completely baseless. Hip-Hop fans who started listening to hip-hop recently and expect 90's sounding hip-hop album in 2015 are the worst.

To be clear, it's not directed at you.

This tbh. It's a modern day rap album combined with classic Dre vibes. He pulled it off perfectly.

I think overal his 3 albums are more close than most people say tbh

Oddisee's "The Good Fight" album should be on everyone's list.

I know @WPG agrees with me.
