how? lit was never the base for anything. they were the same as any other pop skate punk band. green day were doing it in 1990, made it mainstream with dookie, blink 182 got big with it in 97, there were a lot of lesser known bands like mxpx with that style that still had a lot of influence over the whole scene. i mean even the offspring released their first album in 1989 and their style didn't change too much by the time they were mainstream, and by 92 their style was set in stone anyway.

it was jimmy eat world who all the "alternative" bands in the 00s copied, when they released the middle and it became massive. they weren't influenced by lit or even blink, they were a skate punk band at first who went on tour with sunny day real estate and christie front drive and watned to make music that fit in with that midwest emo scene, without the restrictions of punk. they had that sound since 96. besides, alt rock has been a thing since the 80s anyway

again about jimmy eat world, they released clarity in 1999 which is one of the most influential alt rock albums, and probably the most influential emo album, plus one of the most critically acclaimed emo albums. not that critical acclaim ever matters
