It will always amaze me how his ability to make a solid album has honestly been stunted for a full decade now.
Remember how most people were taken aback by "Yeezus" at first and bashed Ye for going wayyyyy off-kilter and unconventional with his approach, but in time, we grew to rank it as either number 2 or 3, if it isn't his absolute best (It isn't to me, but I'm not mad at people who have that opinion in the scope of things leading up to this particularly polarizing generation where/when, the more left-field you are, the more celebrated it is. That is, even if your execution is sloppy, unfortunately. So it's even more difficult to sift through the mediocre "Hotep Hipster Basura" before you find something above-average that stands out in those categories/sub-genres.) in his catalog/discography?
Okay. Now let's try to remember how well "Nothing Was The Same" was received initially by critics and newly-attracted casual listeners for boasting the first few moments in his career where/when Drake decided to shed candid light on his assertive and toxically masculine side (Because they felt as though he successfully defeated that "Softie Predisposition Reputation" he had already deliberately established for himself and the spectating public, earlier on in his career.).
So, with this in mind, what people who grew an affinity to him for at the time were primarily paying attention to, was the extractable qualities which made his sense of character development that much more intriguing.
Barring all of that though, without the backstory of how Drake's career had been heavily followed and covered for 6 years, by then; dare I say it, "Nothing Was The Same" is actually mid, in aging.
It sounded better initially than it does now, actually. And I wasn't truly impressed by it back then either. Drake has got one d----near-classic album in "Take Care".
"So Far Gone" is a classic mixtape though. People fascinated by Drake's "GROWTH" (*Pause* It wasn't meant in that context, but we know how the mind works, so I had to just lay that caveat out in the open for The Sxn80 Boys and Girls/Men and Women to see, transparently.) aren't really "LISTENING TO THE MUSIC" because, if they did, they'd cringe at how much cornier his lines have become, over the past 6 or 7 years!!!!!
Or how weirdly coercive, entitled, and presumptuous he is/can be, as it pertains to self-awareness versus the honest general consensus of who he is, morally and/or sociologically.Last edited: Sep 3, 2021Ordinary Joel, Boos, Lil Squeed and 3 others like this. -
