Jul 5, 2017 This is assuming CNN threatened him via email? There's no proof of that. The guy clearly doesn't seem like he wants to press any legal case either.
Jul 5, 2017 There is.... except the silly conspiracy theory you believe in has already been debunked multiple times.
Jul 5, 2017 By who? The bipolar family who one minute is saying thanks then saying stop? CNN obviously likes to blackmail
Jul 5, 2017 Bruh the private investigator who broke this story recanted it. He said he saw no evidence himself. It's a wrap.
Jul 5, 2017 I'm sure within the email they told him if he didn't apologize, and promise to not post things like this again, that they would release his information. Which this guy is scared of. That in itself is a threat, and wtf we have freedom of speech here bro. What if you posted a funny meme? Next thing f---in CNN is on your s--- wanting a retraction and an apology, and a promise for your further actions, or everyone will know your address and name and s---. This is America and this "news organization" is bullying a citizen. & fighting a legal case against a company as rich as CNN is ridiculously tough, even if they aren't respected anymore
Jul 5, 2017 If you post things like that user did on the internet you should have no expectation of privacy whatsoever. Especially on a public forum like reddit.
Jul 5, 2017 That's what I thought as well but CNN said they didn't reach any type of agreement with him. Legally, "I'm sure" doesn't stand up to much of anything. If the guy felt he was being pressured, that's not what he told CNN. I mean the guy went out of his way to contact them again after the email. He even said he agreed with their reporting. Idk what to tell you....without the emails, it's all speculation. Freedom of speech only applies when the government is infringing speech. CNN is not the government and they're not infringing his speech. CNN has nothing to do with Reddit.
Jul 5, 2017 Ppl should be allowed to post whatever the h--- they want IMO. The point of freedom of speech is to say whatever someone wants. Even if it's racist or f----- up or whatever. Either there's free speech for everyone or it isn't free speech. What gives CNN the right to say, "we reserve the right to publish his identify should any of that change" regarding his apology and assurances not to post s--- they don't like?
Jul 5, 2017 The guy was facing no legal punishment for his speech on Reddit. There is no "freedom of speech" argument.
Jul 5, 2017 After CNN emailed this guy and let him know he he didn't follow what they say they'd publish his information. I bet anything he was going along with CNN because he doesn't want to get f----- over. & I don't trust what CNN says tbh. Lol
Jul 5, 2017 But he's facing having his information put out to the public and he's afraid of that, it's a threat dude. It's still a freedom of speech argument
Jul 5, 2017 The point of free speech and the bill of rights is to give US citizens rights that protect us from the government; not private institutions. You can not say whatever you want; it's not a right that's absolute. CNN isn't a government institution so they can do as they want in this regard. What people have to remember is that your online profile is an extention of yourself. Don't post things that you won't say in real life.
Jul 5, 2017 Tbh when someone is s--- posting and trolling it's not a 100% accurate depiction of the person IMO. & Cnn still doesn't have the right to blackmail a citizen essentially and monitor them? This is a violation of the first amendment. https://www.justice.gov/crt/conspiracy-against-rights
Jul 5, 2017 Again though, this is all speculation without the emails. Clearly you do trust in some of what cnn says if you believe he called them after he issued the apology. It's not. Freedom of speech specifically protects the government from infringing on citizens speech. CNN is not the government. It's the same reason screaming vulgarities at your job can get you fired. You can't claim "freedom of speech!" That's just not how it works.
Jul 5, 2017 It's not a free speech case because 1. CNN isn't a government institution and they have no actually authority & 2. They are not infringing upon his ability to speak freely. There may be consequences he'll face as a result of his speech but that's the case when anyone choose to speak. I can go to work and say f--- you to my boss but what I can't expect is to keep my job.
