Or even musically, implying that all white people have little to no understanding of black music like jazz and funk.

that's not what charity's saying there. in fact, he's making the opposite point: that once pieces like the one he cites started cropping up, he realized that critics by and large weren't going to engage with kendrick's work for fear of being unable to wade through its politics. read it again.
    oh, of course
in future's case specifically? yes. he was the driving force behind the most creative branch of hip-hop for three full years before the B*** of the blog industrial complex caught up. his music is just undeniable.

NOW, he's definitely a beneficiary of that inertia you find at the top, sure. but he wasn't yanked to the top of the pile the way chance was.

@WPG future just a lazy pun. i guess ultimately its inescapable. an artist is talented, earns their critical kudos, but then it takes on an extraterrestrial quality, critically speaking. i think thats half my prejudice against thugger, comparing his work to like... bob marley. i get hyperbole, but can't an artist be great without conflation

i have never seen someone compare young thug to bob marley. and you shouldn't be prejudiced against an artist's work for the din around it.

just because i don't like eminem as much as you doesn't mean i "dislike popular things" or whatever. i'd like to see you argue your case, but you kind of just keep hurling platitudes at me.

hey you're the one making absurd claims. my tastes--who i think are the best rappers of all time, which records i think are the best from each year going back to the beginning of rap--aren't, on the whole, obscure or contrarian.

All I did was ask you to pick one artist that is frequently discussed here. Then I can use said artist as proof.

most mainstream hip hop artists tend to decline after 2/3 albums.

Do you mean critics? I thought it was pretty well known Kanye was the one who made that comparison back in June.

eh. i hate lots of the future coverage. doesn't make me feel differently about future.

we probably shouldn't put too much stock in what kanye "ben carson is a genius" west has to say about other celebrities lol

I don't know much about your opinions on Jay and Nas but...

Kanye: While he's widely celebrated, you frequently hype him up as an amazing lyricist which is the opposite of mainstream belief.
2Pac: You think All Eyez On Me, his most celebrated album, is his worst one.
Biggie: You think Life After Death > Ready to Die. Virtually no one agrees.
Future: Hyped up Pluto way more than any sane person. Also, you credit him as being a great rapper, which again, isn't mainstream belief.
Freddie Gibbs: Again, you hype him up as one of the best artists out, and although I love Pinata, it's a stretch to think he's head and shoulders above other rappers out now.

I'm not necessarily saying you can't argue your POV, but you routinely seem to form your opinions, at least partially, in opposition to mainstream belief.
