I like GKMC. TPAB is crap and only "liked" by people who want to convey they are sophisticated or something. Pretentious BS.

Lol @ trying to expose the media echo chamber while wholeheartedly switching sides to the forum echo chamber of hipsters who quit f---ing with TPAB as soon as they heard others f---ing with it. Saying it isn't concventionally enjoyable album is just a pretentious way of saying you dislike it while offering literally no explanation as to why. A critics job is to thoroughly explain their opinion and the author utterly failed to do that at every point concerning the album and instead said "it's not enjoyable" over and over as if that somehow served as a passable substitute for logic and well-reasoned points of view

Article would have been much better if he wasn't trying to just use his piece as a medium to discredit Kendrick and thr majority of critics (y'know, the ones who actually explained their thoughts)

Because when it comes to sheer enjoy ability, that's subjective all the f---ing way, and at that point what the f--- are you doing as a journalist just spewing out things you like and dislike as if that makes for interesting writing.

Call it what you want but it's true. Big letdown from an artist like Kendrick especially considering GKMC is a classic.

Too bad we don't have a way to measure 'enjoyablity' and if we did I don't think everyone's meter would read the same

If it's a provably true thing then by all means show me how you objectively measure "enjoyability"

nah. the guy who wrote this article fawned over the album when it came out. this latter piece is about how lots of music critics failed in their efforts to engage with it and threw praise at it from afar. it's about the press, not explicitly about the album.

Why can't people just let people enjoy the music they wanna enjoy? Some will call this great, some won't.

i find this rly interesting, and wonder if it can be extrapolated to the ways critics in general (or at least music critics) respond to art while battling against a deadline. at least in print, in the 70s, pauline kael had a few days to process. i wonder if the internet is forcing critics to groupthink... it just so happens tpab is guinea pig here, perhaps rightly so

remember when people were fawning over American Hustle?
