    Hey man just cause we're not freaking out and halted the production of wooden clogs doesn't mean we don't care. It's just an over blown media story. The elderly and immunocompromised should shelter themselves. Every doctor I've seen on TV is saying what a non story this is.

    its dumb because scuba diving has no relevance to a virus.

    It is the worst virus since the Spanish flu. Shouldnt get that bad but it could if people dont take action to stop it spreading.
    Personally not worried about my own health just dont want to spread it to vulnerable people

    It’s not a ‘dumb’ post—that’s on you for the way you interpreted it.

    Human’s innately aren’t very good at accurately assessing risk, hence statistics of things more familiar to us allow us to better understand

    Of course the media tend to blow things out of proportion, but there’s obviously some sort of risk here, particularly if x number of people get infected. Hospital’s resources will begin to diminish at an exponential rate and that is the real risk, hence the precaution by Italy. Especially if no vaccine is found, which I doubt will be any time soon. They are (understandably) taking no chances.

    The potential of an extremely widespread outbreak is currently low, but if not contained properly & it becomes out of control, the consequences could be disastrous on a large scale. Even if people weren’t dying—having to self-isolate to reduce spread would ruin the economy.

    I mean...compared to other infectious diseases, not really. There are quite a few that are far deadlier. Hence why most the individuals dying from this disease are older people with weakened immune systems while most middle aged/young people seem to be recovering.
