It's a temperate climate, similar to the UK. Pretty cold atm coming into winter.

Declaring martial law I think would be the only way, yeh?

it’s tricky. Technically yes but what warrants a “national state of emergency” is what would be disputed. During war times, definitely. Governors have more solid legal footing to declare state of emergencies, declare martial law, etc.

If a pandemic with 50,000 deaths doesn't warrant a national state of emergency then what does?

I guess on the plus side.putnof all of this is that our Government is beginning to discuss an exit strategy. Apparently "non-essential" shops may be open in the next week or so.

But without a vaccine, decisions are going to be made based on how much loss of life there will be an acceptance to. Wouldn't want to be the one to make those decisions!

Non essential businesses should be open. Just have it like they do in PA, you have to wear a mask any store you go to. This is hurting way too many small business owners, and now some have no choice but to get rid of some employees. This virus isn’t going to spike opening non essential businesses. Also, this will help the economy recover more quickly. The benefits out weigh the cons.

Thankfully, I’m really cool and friends with a Indian gas station owner. Some non essential items I buy. He’ll walk into the back then come out with what I want, but I have to pay in cash. He says I trust you, but anyone I don’t know that want certain things, I turn them away. He gives me a h--- of a deal on a 4 Juul pack. $60, but it also has to be cash. I quit cigarettes just switching to mainly pods now. f---ing $8.82 for a pack of smokes, f--- out of here. The tobacco industry should be sued.

Allowing businesses to open up before medical experts give the clear is just going to lead to a resurgence of the virus & the state likely closing down businesses again. We’re in a recession. That’s not going to change whether we open tomorrow or next month.

lockdowns should not happen at the expense of the econony opinion makes no sense,

You let the virus spread 10,000+ may die a day and 100,000+ people would be sick daily causing society to collapse anyway & no one would go to work

Exactly. People who didn’t pass algebra II in high school swear they’re so smart talking “cost-benefit analysis” when they have no actual data to support their argument.

I don't know how it is over there but like 90% of the people here that are like 'people are overreacting, this lockdown is bs its just a flu lmao relax!!!' are people, no disrespect, that quit school very early and don't come off as very smart.

Exact same. It’s either very ignorant/naive people OR pure capitalists who don’t give af if people die as long as they can make money. The later knows their position is immoral though so they try to mask it with “well... more people could die in another Great Depression!!”

Exactly. What some people don't seem to understand is that nobody thinks we will get rid of the virus any time soon. It will spread until we have a proper medicine or vaccin and most people will be fine.

However, in south european countries at one point there weren't enough beds on the IC and they had to make a choice which person to save. Absolutely devastating for both people and the doctors.

So here the government introduced a so called intelligent lockdown; shared facilities closed, work from home if possible, elderly homes closed, no events, no bars, no professions w physical contact like barbershops.

But on the other hand we could still go outside for a walk/run or whatever, to the stores, to work, have 2 people over at home, as long as we kept distance. So we were limited but were still able to do things they couldn't in other countries.

And yes people died. Every death is a loss. But we managed to double the amount of IC beds to 2400 and thank god we only needed like 1200 so far. And in the last week (because of the rules) it dropped daily and now there are like 900.

Slowly you can see its getting more crowded outside (pple were inside for almost 6 weeks) but most people keep their distance and companies/stores etc do their best to facilitate people w doing that. In a few weeks schools are slowly opening again and we can (w small steps) go back to the 'new' normal, which is here called q '1.5 meter society'

Sure there are lowlifes like I said that don't care but luckily most people do.

So all things considered I'm glad I'm living in Holland tbh because sure mistakes were made here as well, but I think that happens almost everywhere w new situations like this. But I really hope we keep it up like this and it won't do much more damage cuz of some idiots.

And the economy? Once its possible again I'm gonna support the local bars etc as much as possible, but rn we need to keep people save and healthy. Also for the people working in hospitals, they are slowly getting tired, sick etc. We need to do it for them as well

You would think. And I agree. But according to my Texas’ governor Greg Abbott, “there are more important things than living”.

Yea he basically said that twice in the span of a few weeks. I understand his larger point, that we need to try harder at getting the economy back on track. I agree with that premise to a certain point, but not if it mean costing people their lives. But there are more important things than living? That literally makes no sense lmao. f---ing r-----.

Without living there literally is nothing else lmfao

But yeah its kinda easy for me to say I got a job and I have no worries I'm gonna be out of a job anytime soon if nothing too weird happens but for some people it really is f-----. But still, anyone w common sense and a heart doesn't put anything above human lives. Especially not some loser that probably lives in a huge mansion and plenty of space around his house to move lol
