Mar 17, 2015 Anyone have some insight in what Obama say, "What it do?" and the beat change suggest in "Hood Politics"
Mar 17, 2015 It has to do with what he was rapping about a few lines earlier in the same verse, I think: the bloods and crips use guns in their conflicts (which often lead to innocent victims), but these guns are provided so easily to them because the 2 parties (democrats/republicans) refuse to go against the industry/gun shop owners etc, so they are also responsible about this situation (and he mentioned Obama because his skin colour doesn't stop him from being part of this system, and that he can't (or won't) do nothing about it). Maybe the beat change shows the change of scenery, from the streets to the congress, and how people still fight (in different ways) for power, but the victims remain the same? Or maybe the beat change happened to lead to the next verse, I'm not sure about this though. I'm on my first listen rn
Mar 17, 2015 This is just a theory but: When he's listening to 2Pac, Pac says someone has 5 years to become better. And then says 30 is the beginning of the end in a mans life. Kendrick is 27. When GKMC came out he was 25. I see all the music from GKMC and later is when Kendrick is in his caterpillar phase. This album is during his cocoon phase. And he will have an album when he's 30 which is his butterfly form. This works kind of with his poem at the end. OR His cocoon phase was between GKMC and TPAB, and this new album is his evolution.
Mar 17, 2015 When I listened to the album the first time I thought he was talking about LSD. The fact that Kendrick doesn't portray himself as someone who would experiment with drugs though makes me think now that he's referring to Lucifer.
Mar 17, 2015 It's definitely not just one or the other m8 There's no way kendrick made this album without trying hullucineogeons at least once lmao. The references to "trips," the fact that the entire album is an internal struggle within kendricks mind, etcs. Album is definitely meant to be psychedelic
Mar 17, 2015 I figured that but Kendrick's always been so anti liquor and drugs I thought I was reaching. This reminded me though I still need to try LSD.
