Aug 4, 2015 When I heard Future was going to release a sequel to his 2011 mixtape Dirty Sprite, a single tear trickled down my cheek. I lived in Future’s hometown of Atlanta when Dirty Sprite came out in 2011; Future had the entire city of Atlanta in a frenzy. These days Future has the country in a frenzy. Police in riot gear had to break up a crowd gathered outside the Roxy in Los Angeles to get tickets to see Future perform. Ds2, which is short for Dirty Sprite 2, is the sequel to Future’s career-changing Dirty Sprite mixtape. Ds2 is Future’s third studio album and is #1 on the Billboard charts this week. Future’s popularity has skyrocketed in the four-and-a-half years since Dirty Sprite, but Future’s love for designer fashion is the same. If you listen to Dirty Sprite, you’ll hear Future call himself the Designer Kid. And one of Future’s most noteworthy ad-libs on Dirty Sprite is ‘designer!’. Although you won’t hear Future call himself the Designer Kid or use the ‘designer’ adlib on DS2, the number of designer fashion mentions are nearly identical. But what brands does Future mention on DS2? How are they different than the designers Future rapped about on Dirty Sprite? What’s changed? What’s the same? How has Future’s taste in fashion evolved? Comparing his lyrics on both tapes brings this to light: The Evolution of Future’s Fashion The designer brand Future mentions most on 2011’s Dirty Sprite is Louis Vuitton. The number of LV mentions on DS2 is down 83%. Future’s love for watches, specifically Audemars Piquet, is on full display on DS2. Future mentions AP twice on Dirty Sprite and 11 times on DS2. That’s a +450% increase. + 450% Audemars references - 83% Louis Vuitton + 150% Gucci - 60% Christian Loubution There are also new designer brands that Future raps about on DS2: Tom Ford Hermes Maison Margiela Hublot Alexander McQueen What did Future rap about on DS1, but not on DS2? True Religion Jeans Jimmy Choo Emilio Pucci Franck Muller Burberry Why did we do this? When we made our Nicki Minaj fashion infographic, I remember thinking: Future mentions more fashion brands in one song than Nicki Minaj does in a whole album. With that being said, we were genuinely interested to see how Future’s taste in fashion has changed. Link to article
