Apr 24, 2021What's crazy to me is DMX not having a billboard hit higher than #17.
I read that article from the link posted higher on this page and his biggest hit on the billboard 100 was The Lox's "Money, Power & Respect" in 1998. Landed at #17.
You would think Party Up and X Gon Give it to You were way bigger hits. But Party Up only reached #27 back in 2000 and X Gon Give it to You landed at #35.
He just beat his career record with Ruff Ryder's Anthem landing at #16 after his death. Back in 1999 it only made it to #94
Anyway, it's quite surprising for Party Up not to have landed higher than #27 back in 2000. Even 8 year old me remembers that song being played all over the radio. You would think it was a top 5 on the billboard back then.

"Streams for DMX’s catalog have increased over 900 percent in the days following his passing, Billboard reported on Monday.
On April 9, DMX’s family revealed they would be taking the Dark Man X off life support following his hospitalization. According to MRC Data, DMX’s tracks collectively gained 75.7 million on-demand streams (audio and video combined) on April 9 and April 10 following this news. That was a 928 percent increase when compared to the 7.36 million they earned on April 7 and 8."

Apparently they had beef...
During a 2012 interview with The Breakfast Club, DMX loudly stated his opinion on Drake, saying at the time, “I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his f---ing voice. I don’t like the s--- he talks about. I don’t like his face. I don’t like the way he walks, nothing. I don’t like his haircut.”
But four years later, the Ruff Ryders legend changed his tune after Drake used his song “How’s It Goin’ Down” for the 2016 Views cut “U With Me?,” which also featured DMX’s name and lyrics from “What These b------s Want” from his 1999 album And Then There Was X. The ensuing phone call that took place didn’t hurt either.Wreckless, Ricky, The Mack and 1 other person like this. -

Re-downloading the full discog and listening to some stuff for the first time in years. 'Lord Give Me a Sign' is a later career gem. As an atheist, I could listen to DMX on his religious s--- all day.Ordinary Joel, Ricky, ETERNAL and 1 other person like this. - May 6, 2025

After a couple of days to grieve this isn't any easier to deal with.
I'm getting pissed off with the Mrs as well because all I hear from her is "oh, you're still moping about him? It's his own fault" a d "he's just a rapper, you didn't know him personally". Thanks for the support...
It's been mentioned here already but the best thing about all.of this is the huge amount of love he's getting. Nothing negative is being talked about, just his influence on music. Love.
And on a slightly different note, on Friday evening DMX was trending number 1 in the UK on Twitter whereas Prince Philip (the Queen's husband, who died the same day) was number 2. Not saying anything bad about Prince Philip but I obviously relate more to DMX's death and it appears that's the same for the whole country.

Cant help but feel so many rappers are destined to die once you see how everyone around them just chip away their success and money...they put you on whatever so you stay dependent on them if its drugs or whatever. And that start a path to their ultimate death...it happened so many times and we always ignore the fact those are all indirect murders. Dmx was killed by a bullet 40 years ago. Same with so many others. Its like if you were poor and came from a poor place and became rich...ppl around u will k--- u 5 times outta 10Ordinary Joel, JMG, magicobraga and 1 other person like this. -
