The south is dominating the genre right now, Future/Thug/Gucci/whoever are some of the most effective and evocative writers in rap. Some of the most acclaimed and influential acts the genre's ever seen have come out of the south, like Outkast, UGK, Goodie Mob, Geto Boyz, Three 6, the list goes on.

Lmao who actually cares tho? Nobody in NYC hating on southern rap for that reason besides old heads who hate todays best acts even the ones from NYC for the sake of them being new
Spent majority of my life in NYC and southern rappers have been big there for as long as I can remember. The only ppl making it about regions are hip hop fans from neighborhoods named Oakleaf or Glennwood

There are many people that are debatably better. I understand if you think that Biggie is the best but saying that nobody else is on his level is just absurd. Slick Rick, Nas, Kool G Rap, Andre 3000, GFK, Big L, Scarface, Kendrick, and Pac are all at least on his level storytelling-wise, and you can make a case for all of them.

It's a unpopular opinion thread I'm just sharing an opinion no ones 'making it about regions' im just saying imo south tends to be weaker and less lyrical

I think that's an unfair comparison, though, of course the east coast is gonna come out on top due to the sheer volume of artists that have come out of there, that's where the genre started, they had a big head start over the rest of the country.

Ur right ur right but it’s just one of those opinions that’s up there with “the only real rap is Eminem wutang and immortal tech”. I heard that so much when I lived in FL and have only heard it even more since moving to WA

Don't really see the comparison, everyone prefers a sound well at least most do not groundbreaking in that regard

    • J. Cole and Kendrick are technically gifted yet incredibly corny and have terrible ears for beats.
    • Pusha T is the most underrated artist in the industry.
    • The Eminem Show > MMLP.
    • Yeezus > MBDTF.
    • The Doctor’s Advocate > The Documentary.
    • Timbaland + Danja are the greatest production duo of all time.
    • Like Eminem, Royce actually used to be great (see Death is Certain).

Revival is a classic and his best album next to probably southpaw or HTS

Tech n9ne the actual GOAT imo

    Hopsin RAW a classic

Kanye and Kendrick both have never released an actual good album

Logics verse on caterpillar is the best verse of the year so far. So much passion behind it.

Nas, with Life is good, paved the way for Jay, Kanye and all old school legends to continue to be relevant in their rap careers.
