    Kyrgyzstan feels like an anomaly:

Poland is the only country that had an immediate noteworthy uptick but then dropped below overall:

Georgia's the only one that had an upward trend, that then returned to normal (though I can't say what the future after 11 years was):

Yes exactly. Killing or torturing people doesn't prevent crime or rehabilitate anyone.

    A few reasons:
    1. In the USA, it costs more money to execute someone than to leave them in prison for life due to the appeals process and the fact that it can take a 10+ years of them sitting on death row.

    2. Cuz, like I said, people's guilt have been "proven" only for a piece of evidence to exonerate someone years later. Our system is flawed.

    3. Do you think anyone who kills someone should be put to death? What if it was an accident? Like if they got in a fight and accidentally killed the other person? Or if someone kills someone in the heat of the moment and feels instant regret? Living with that is a punishment worse than death imo and I'd rather have them spend 25 years in prison contemplating that and come out rehabilitated (obviously there'd have to be a lot of prison reform for this to work lol) than just having two people dead. What does that solve? Maybe the victim's family feel better for an instant and then they still have to deal with the gaping hole in their life and soul.

If putting people to death actually prevented murders from being committed then I could get behind it in theory. But it doesn't. It's amputating a gangrenous limb instead of trying to prevent gangrene in the first place.

Nah, I don't care what you did. Death penalty is archaic and sickening. It says alot about how backwards the state you live in is if it still exists.

I'm almost 100% against it even though there are people that 100% deserve it - or even worse, you know?

I’ve read about this before. The study I read talked about how Norway only gives a maximum sentence of 20 or 21 years for any crime. Then after that term if you aren’t considered rehabilitated then they can extend your sentence a year at a time.
