Do you think artists get put into boxes after making a certain type of song?

I was curious to know if the whole first impressions lasted a lifetime really is still valid in the present times.
My main curiosity is if an artist puts out a song thats got a light feel good vibe to it, does that prevent him from being taken seriously if they drop a heavier/denser track? I feel like its easier to go from dark/denser sounds (trappy/dark s---) to lighter songs, like the linked up one than the other way around. But im not married to my opinion, just how i feel about it atm.

p.s I produced the beat and thats me rapping incase you didnt know :)

That's probably my favorite track of yours tbh.

And I definitely do, and it sucks.

Should nearly be moved to the music section I reckon for a broader audience. It's a good question from my work colleague :emeh:

yes but to me when you have a sound that brings you a fan base then suddenly switch to appeal to a different audience it doesn't always work out, fan's loyalty to artists is pretty thin, make what you know and stick with it. that's just my opinion.

Thanks dude, tbh not my own personal favorite, but I dunno if its to do with how much time i spent with this song until now, being that i produced the beat then wrote the lyrics, recorded and mixed, then organised the video! its probably that actually, haha ive just heard it a million times by now.

    preciate it mang!

it's true but artists shouldn't be limited by their audience, they should at least be given some room to experiment/evolve, but you're not wrong, loyalty can be pretty thin. Like when joey made devastated, most of his core fans, including me, were like tf you make that record for? but then it caught on and grew on people, and now im like yea its cool as long as you go back to the sound we know and love.

My whole gripe is that i dont think it works the other way.

LOL that whole character was a last minute addition, i think hes funny af.. like a dancing slenderman ahah
