Mar 19, 2018 Yea I mean you said it. If we're talking great music nobody is talking cyhi and royce. Competitiveness, Royce, cyhi.... are we talking music or battle rapping. Rap music is so much more than rhyming a bunch of words together
Mar 19, 2018 I agree with that. In a good way though. I think linguistic choices matter. Huge plus if you're conveying them in complex rhyme schemes.
Mar 19, 2018 oh I feel you, people on rg just get mad at me for saying 1 thing then downvote all my posts s--- was annoying
Mar 19, 2018 Being a rapper kinda is about lyrcicsm and wordplay, it's not only about that but that does play a big part
Mar 19, 2018 I'd argue Kanye opened the lane for all these new rappers bcus of his overall acceptance and inclusive nature. He has had such an important impact on the course of Hip Hop. So much so that these lists of "lyricist first" have become obsolete to most new kids. Black and white.
Mar 19, 2018 like if you nerds really want to measure "rapping ability" you're going to need to be able to put metrics on s--- (number of words per time window, number of different words used, number of syllables, etc.). "Content" and "meaning" is subjective. So, tbh, not in order: Eminem Tech N9ne Mac Lethal Aesop Rock etc.
Mar 19, 2018 No. Knowing a huge amount of words does not mean you're the best rapper. See here's the thing that people on the other side are doing. They're assuming things like this or that I'm only saying it's about rhyming or complex rhyme schemes. No one is saying that. Being great at rapping is an all encompassing thing.
Mar 19, 2018 Completing distorting what it means to be a great rapper to fit the narrative that proficient rappers aren't good artists (or as good as Ye) Redman doesn't rhyme as much or as fast as n9ne or Eminem and he doesn't know as many words as Aesop. But he's still a great technical rapper.
Mar 19, 2018 Is Kanye a better rapper than Redman? Can anyone say that without getting the point I and some others in this thread are trying to make.
