The definition of ghost writing is having uncredited writers. Having a credited writer is...having a credited writer.

    sigh

"the nefarious part of ghostwriting is the "ghost" part. kanye, since he first started rapping professionally, has credited people extremely liberally. none of the lines that made it onto the final version of jesus walks were written by rhymefest; since he originally had the beat, and had written a song called "jesus walks" to it, however, kanye credited him. i've talked to rhymefest about this, and i believe @Tha Story has linked to an interview where he says something to the same effect. common told me personally that he helped with some verses on late registration, and kanye helped with some verses on be. that's just how it is.

of course kanye has help writing--as does everyone in the industry, up to and including nas, jay z, kendrick, whomever. but where those guys don't give out credits, kanye does. then bumbling morons look at the liner notes and feel like they're breaking the news."

So whenever you read a book, and there's an editor and he/she goes in and tidys up the book and words things more properly and overall adds to the novel, do you refuse to read it on the grounds of it not being 100% the author's creation? What about Tv shows? Movies?

I think the problem is people's mindset towards writers, it's not like the rapper is lazy af and just has other people do s--- for him, it's that if someone gives ANY help whatsoever to the creation process, they deserve to be mentioned. It's been said numerous times about how artists like Kanye will be in the studio thinking up rhymes and someone will add something in, maybe a line, maybe a punchline, maybe like an overall theme for a bar, either way they've added on to the piece and should be credited as such.

I understand the negativity towards artists that don't input anything creative themselves into the writing, but people need to realize that credited writers doesn't necessarily imply laziness or detatchment from the project.

That being said, I HATE the concept of ghost writers, not the writers themselves cuz n----s gotta eat I understand that, but why csnt the artists give them their proper credit?

That's one thing that, despite many people trying to knock Kanye, he is very well at. The reason Yeezus had a laundry list of writers was because Ye did things properly and gave everyone proper credit

Technically yes, but hip-hop has a stigma around spitting other people's bars.
I use ghostwriting interchangeably, as I think most people do.
While the author isn't literally unknown, it is somebody other than the artist.

MC is literally just another word for rapper. Kanye raps, therefore he is a rapper. A producer first and foremost, sure, but still a rapper.

n----- did you really just tell me I'm wrong for using the dictionary definition of a word?

First of all, I just want to point this out, not just to you but to everyone, it is REALLY pretentious to assume you know more than someone just because of your age difference.

And what's your source for people assuming Ye writes his own lyrics? Because given the negative stigma against him and mainstream rap in general, I'd be more willing to bet that the average person assumes he has no artistic input on the lyrical side of things.

And idk it seems like you're going off of personal experiences so ima say this: if the people you know call credited writers ghost writers, then they are wrong. I don't care what way you hear people use it, the actual, non-malleable definition of ghost writer is "uncredited writer", meaning someone who gets no acknowledgement as far as being part of the creative process. Words mean things, you can't use them the wrong way just because you want to

And as far as the "Kanye is a producer not an MC", pls go listen to Kanye's musoc again. He may not be the most lyrical but that n----- was rolling with Mos Def and Talib Kweli and s--- so he fulfills the backpacker requirement, AND a good portion of his verses are pretty good, at least worthy of acknowledging his status as a rapper.

And I don't know why you're telling me the difference between inspiration and plagiarism, I took English classes too I know what these things are. There's been multiple credible articles on Kanye's creative process and how, apart from Yeezus, it's mostly Ye coming up with some s--- and then whoever is in the studio with him helping to brainstorm to fill out the bar, except for special cases.
