Apr 20, 2024 I think the use of AI here treads a fine line that is offending a lot of people. I don’t want AI in music at all, but him using it to mock Kendrick’s idols, on a track that won’t be officially released, and the AI isn’t trying to fool anyone (its blatant and not great quality). I think that’s what makes it okay for me. It’s never been done before in a beef, and you can tell he’s using it just to piss Kendrick off. (That being said, if it’s ever used again the gimmick is over and it’s no longer unique and corny) my observation is that it may be a net negative move from Drake as A LOT of people are upset (not just Kendrick..), and don’t care what the contents of the diss are. They hear AI, gasp, and trash it. Which is kind of fair, but I think it’s a bit of an overreaction. Same with people calling it a genius move, that’s also an overreaction.

Apr 20, 2024 Jokes aside, the whole putting Kendrick on a shot clock narrative is silly. I get why Drake is doing it (he did it to Meek & he was able to successfully bait him into putting out a sloppy response) but Ether came out 3 months after Takeover lol. Kendrick putting out a response on his own time frame is probably the smartest thing he can do right now.

I’m not sure at what point it happened (Back To Back comes to mind, but hesitant to give Drake credit for the shift), but expectations have changed and a more immediate response is demanded these days. If you’re not quick to act, then people get tired. And with every waking day with no response, the appearance is that you’re more and more cooked because you *can’t* respond.

Apr 20, 2024 Exactly—these are expectations that Drake has largely imposed but it’s not the bar lol. I think Budden said it best on his podcast: the ability to respond quick is considered a skill but not the end all be all. Drake himself took a couple weeks after the Like That verse too.

Kendrick looks very bad. But he could respond tomorrow and annihilate Drake and we'll all be talking about that, but as of now he looks like a p---- tbh

If you want to battle then that s--- should be taken care of within a week unless you're on tour or have something else going on. Especially if you started it. That didn't happen with Pusha which is why we aren't talking about it tho
